John Robbins tells the fable about people falling off the cliff :
.
"Once upon a time, there was a large and rich country where people kept falling over a steep cliff. They’d fall to the bottom and be injured, sometimes quite seriously, and many of them died. The nation’s medical establishment responded to the situation by positioning at the base of the cliff the most sophisticated and expensive ambulance fleet ever developed, which would immediately rush those who had fallen to modern hospitals that were equipped with the latest technological wizardry. No expense was too great, they said, when people’s health was at stake.
.
Now the idea occurred to certain people that another possibility would be to erect a fence at the top of the cliff. When they voiced the idea, however, they found themselves ignored. The medical authorities explained patiently that while building a fence might seem like an interesting idea, it was actually far from practical, and that health was too important to be left in the hands of people who were not experts. “Leave it to us,” they said, “for with enough money we will soon be able to genetically engineer people who do not bruise or become injured from such falls.”
.
So no fences were built, and as time passed this nation found itself spending an ever-increasing amount of its financial resources on drugs, surgeries, hospitals, and high-tech medical equipment. Money that could have gone to community services, decent housing, education and good food — not to mention building safety fences — was not available to the people, for it was being spent on medical care for people who had fallen over the cliff. As the costs of treating people kept rising, growing numbers of people could not afford medical care. There were increasing numbers of homeless, and there were ever more hungry people, and families torn apart by the stress. Violence, gangs, and inner city riots began to well up as outlets for the frustration and despair people felt.
.
The more people kept falling off the cliff, the more a sense of urgency and tension developed, and the more of the country’s money was poured into the heroic search for a drug that could be given to those who had fallen to cure their injuries.
.
When a few families who had lost loved ones tried to erect warning signs at the top of the cliff, they were arrested for trespassing. When some of the more enlightened physicians began to say that “Fences should be built,” and “Warning signs should be erected,” representatives from powerful industries denounced them as “health police.” A fierce battle ensued, and finally, after many compromises, the medical establishment did issue warnings. Anyone, they said, who had already broken both arms and both legs in previous falls should exercise utmost caution when falling."
Even though these tips/ guidelines aren't tailored toward autoimmuners, I still found these 'generic' plant-based concepts (for the 'general public') helpful & in line with the principles I follow for a more RA/ autoimmune tailored diet/lifestyle. 👍
Hope it proves useful to you too. ☺️

Finding Sumit Bose's depiction of early phases of the PP process spot on!! ☺️ 👍
Refreshing to see accuracy/ preciseness with which he explains a dietary/ lifestyle (d/l) process (after reading so many misconceptions), as well as his generously showing his unvarnished personal experience, day by day. 🤗
[Many thanks to SB. 🙏 😌 His truthfulness/ honesty is sincerely appreciated by those of us who are also on a d/l journey & wish to learn from (& share with) each other. 👍 ]

Reposting of deleted post 'The end of RA...?' from (former) NRAS forum poster 'onesizefitsall' follows.*
[The post was deleted & not permitted to be re-posted (at NRAS forum) for reasons noted by EmmaS-NRAS Administrator at 'Updated NRAS Community Guidelines' ( healthunlocked.com/nras/pos... toward bottom of page).]**
.
Found the post interesting & reflective of the positive (even 'life-changing') experience many of us have had implementing dietary/ lifestyle (d/l) approaches over time. 👍👍
Therefore, think it's worthwhile re-posting here for people who are genuinely interested in researching 🕵️♀️ 🔎 d/l approaches.
Kindly bear in mind 🤔 the issues NRAS has raised & their concerns about 'phrasings' within onesizefitsall's post.**

.
Also:
'The end of RA...?' post's content/ text was also placed at post, Warm welcome, Hopeyj19! ( healthunlocked.com/nras/pos... ), where that text was also deleted, but my replies to 'onesizefitsall' remain ('out of context' 😳 🙃 🤣 ).
My hope 🙏 is that 'onesizefitsall' will return to the forum(s) & choose to re-connect with us & share more of his wife Sharon's experience, as well as his own — being 'the spouse 💑 of an autoimmuner'. 😌
Those of us genuinely interested 🤔 in d/l are open/ receptive to hearing 👂 other autoimmuners actual experiences. That's how we learn 👩🏫 👨🏫 from each other, glean new ideas 💡 , & figure out 🙇♀️🙇 how to refine techniques/ processes, etc.. 👍👍
We are deeply appreciative 🙏 to anyone who has the courage to share what has worked for themselves or their loved ones. 😌
So, if you're 'out there', onesizefitsall 🕴, & happen to stumble across this post, please know that we appreciate 🙏 what you kindly took the time to share with everyone. 😌
We wish you & your beloved wife, Sharon, the very best. 🙏 🍀 🌺 🌞
I'm brand new to this site - in fact I stumbled upon it by accident! I have been looking through some of the posts and it's so, so upsetting. All the Sulfasalazine, Methotrexate (yuk!!) and Humira and all the nasty side effects. My wife went through the same thing, but she has been fortunate enough to get past it all.
.
The answer is simple - change your diet. As with all the auto-immune diseases, leaky gut is the starting point, foreign proteins in the bloodstream are the cause and a Whole Food Plant Based (WFPB) Diet is the answer. Whats the downside? Changing to a WFPB diet costs nothing. Side effects - better health all round.
.
Don't believe it (we didn't!) - do your own research - I'll start you off with a link to Nutritionfacts.org. Its free and run by an American GP who looks at all the best and latest research and makes short videos about it. Links at the end. I would also recommend watching "What The Health", which you can find on Netflix.
.
If it was that easy wouldn't every rheumatologist prescribe this? The problem is that they are trained to label an illness and then give you a pill! Their level of nutritional training is about 4hrs for the whole 5yr course. Also, NICE don't allow them to mention diet since the evidence is observational not double blind placebo controlled trial - the latter would be pretty hard to do unless you blended every meal and made them all taste the same... a bit of a tall order! Also, who pays for clinical research? The pharmaceutical companies - they aren't likely to pay for this, since there's no profit in it for them!
.
Why am I interested? Because I hate seeing people suffering like Sharon did, completely unnecessarily! My background - a PhD Chemist with a background in Biochemistry and Genetics. No, I don't have a diet programme, no I don't sell dietary supplements and no I haven't written a book! I just want people to know and experience the freedom of good health! And no, I'm not a saint!!
.
My wife's story: She developed Psoriatic Arthritis during the final trimester of her first pregnancy. After our sone was born, she couldn't straighten her fingers, she had pain and swelling in virtually every joint. She slept in a chair at night so that her hands dangled since that was the only way that she got any relief from the pain in her hands. She couldn't get her old jeans on because her legs were swollen!
.
Post diagnosis, she started with Prednisone injections, but after three, the rheumatologist declined any more due to the long term side effects. When she stopped breast feeding, she was given Sulfasalazine, which did help. However, it merely dampened things down and she still had a lot of inflamation - she still couldn't fully straighten her fingers or get her wedding rings on. Finally, she changed her diet and dropped the Sulfasalazine within weeks. Nearly 18 months later, she is medication free, pain free and inflammation free. She will happily chat to anyone who wants to talk about RA and how not to have it any more - just get in touch.

Here's a place to start looking:

My wife went on the Padisson Programme (single £45 cost) which worked brilliantly, but nobody has to! Dr John McDougall (WFPB diet for over 40 years!) offers a free diet programme and a ton of free resources on his website. Here's the links:

Films: Forks Over Knives and What The Health are good starting places.
I've had a quick chat with the other admins and we're all in agreement that even if the post hadn't been removed (either by the user or HU) then we would have taken the same action so feel it is not appropriate on this occasion to re-post.
The problem is not with the general content of the post but that they were advising people on what to do and the information, such as NICE not being allowed to suggest diet to anyone, was untrue. It’s not that they couldn’t have put a post up about how diet helped their wife's psoriatic arthritis, they just can’t suggest that people are struggling ‘unnecessarily’ on medication and that this would cure their condition. It’s all in the phrasing! The reason we were looking to remove rather than edit is that we took issue with so much of it that in order to stay, it would really need to be rewritten by the author rather than heavily edited by us.
Thank you kindly, PhD Chemist (biochemistry 👨🔬 & genetics background ) & loving husband 🤵, onesizefitsall, for sharing your experience. 🙏 😌
Please let your beloved Sharon 👰 know she joins with fellow NRAS WFPB-ers andyswarbs & shaun94 in improving/ healing. 👍👍
Please keep sharing your beloved Sharon's experience, onesizefitsall. 🙏
There are people eager to hear/ learn about her experience & the realistic hope that's open to so many of us.
.
Those of us with experience, live in hope that "truth will out" one day. ☺️
Unnecessary suffering will fade into past & anyone genuinely interested in pursuing a dietary/ lifestyle (d/l) approach will do their research 👩🏫 👨💻 & not be deterred from exploring 🕵️♀️ 🔎 d/l for themselves.
.
After all, so many of us are improving our conditions via food & lifestyle changes. 🤗
We can't all be relegated to the pile of merely 'lucky few'. 😳 🤔
[Yes, with respect for individuals for whom d/l processes do not work readily, there is absolute understanding, compassion, no 'blame', etc. Yet, equally, for those who have had good fortune with d/l, I'd hope the same respect, understanding, compassion, lack of 'blame', etc. would be equally afforded. 😌 🙏 ]
