Just a little rant!
Hi all, after what was a good 12 weeks for me with no admissions - the longest i had stayed at home since October was 2 weeks, everything feels like it’s going backwards! I have had 2 admissions in the last 4 weeks, one was requiring ITU for 2 nights, I was discharged on Wednesday this week, and again

BMI and some other snippets from a book I’m reading
I am reading a book called a Fat and Furious by Steve Bennett at the moment. There is a lot of information and challenges to the current, and past, weight loss assumptions with input from the likes of Dr Malcolm MacKendrick, Dr Jason Fung, Dr David, Unwin, Tim Noakes and many others. Some interesting

Low Carb Down Under.
I watch a lot, a lot of videos, presentation etc on the subject of diet and health, but nowadays I am fairly discriminately when choosing to watch or not, as I am completely on message. However, occasionally a gem emerges. This is one such, and one I am watching again. As links don't always work, go

SALT!
Remember that the average body NEEDS 6gm of salt a day and that it's insulin, not sodium that drives hypertension. Insulin hangs on to sodium, sodium increases blood volume which drives up blood pressure and thus elevates pressure on the kidneys. Typical of anyone with T2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome

Low carb diet has increased uric acid level!
Hi All, I have been on this merry-go-round journey since March. I am currently on 9mg prednisolone and have told to remain on that dose until I see the rheumatologist in September. Tapering like many of you has been not very straight forward but I have been doing lots of things to help my body adapt/

Slow second k...any advice?
I graduated a couple of weeks ago and have been slowly increasing my distance, I’m up to 4.5km but I always seem to have a slow second kilometre. I think there’s something psychological going on because I’m a bit faster and find it easier once I get past half way. I think maybe I’m worried I won’t finish

Methotrexate
Hi all Rheumatologist wants to put me on methotrexate becuase I'm struggling to taper - currently on 17mg. I'm reluctant, it's another nasty in my view and the increased monitoring is an additional stress. But getting the pred down is important too especially as I'm developing the chubby cheeks. I've

Pancakes
Ayup playmates. How about this for a very simple low-carb pancake recipe? 2 eggs, 1 heaped tsp Psyllium Husk, 2-4 tbsps double cream, enough milk to reach your preferred consistency. Pinch of salt. Mix the ingredients together to make a pancake mix to your preferred consistency. I found there is enough

Cannot eat protein
Hi, I wondered if anyone has come across my condition before. I get very bad peripheral neuropathy in my legs and sometimes hands about three hours after eating any protein (meat, dairy, eggs, beans, seeds ....) I have had this for over 5 years and it is mostly controlled by gabapentin and a very low

The time has come (the walrus said)
- to join LCHF. I joined HU when I signed up to C25K, 7 weeks ago - before that I didn't know it existed - and C25K is the reason for my username - nothing to do with food! I soon joined Healthy Eating, because I have been interested for a long time, and the Gluten Free community, because I am a newish

Anyone lost a lot of weight managed not to have loose skin?
Since early March I've been determined to lose weight for health (and vanity - have to be honest). Happy with weight loss of over a stone since then (joined LCHF in June). I've lost 4 inches from my waist (was an 'apple') but I can already see fairly loose skin and I still have 3 stone to go and don't

Statin intolerance
Trying hard to take statins after heart bypass. Have managed to get my cholesterol level down to normal without statins and result came back from lab “no further action” but rang my doctor anyway to discuss the fact I should be on them as a precautionary measure . He put me on Ezetimibe 10 mg but no

Hello from newbie
Hi all, fellow RLS sufferer here, for about the last 7-8 years. Been to a couple of GPs who were pretty unsympathetic TBH so I gave up on them and, after much experimentation, I now ‘manage’ the 3-6 bouts a night with magnesium and potassium tablets (as each bout comes on). Doesn’t matter what strength

Diet type map
I used to have a link to a sort of mind map diagram of all the variations of diets with a couple of lines summing up the unique features. For example it would start with Low carb and split into LCHF, Paleo, Keto, Cavemans, Atkins, etc. I can't find it any more, does anyone have a link?
