Hi guys! I’m looking for some tried and tested keto recipes. I use the diet doctor but some of the recipes I’ve tried taste absolutely awful. Someone kindly gave the recipe for 4-minute keto crackers which were divine with some cream cheese! So does anyone have any other keto recipes that they have tried that have been amazing?? I’m running out of dinner ideas as I like to try something new each day. I should also say I do check daily diary often as well, but a lot of ideas are for LCHF where as keto seems to require much more fat and much less carbs than the meal ideas given (although they do sound tasty!).
Hope everyone is doing well and thanks in advance!
- Bellaxo
Edit: thank you for all the suggestions! I will have a look at the reviews on the websites! The biggest thing for me is not finding recipes (because you can easily google keto) but finding a diverse range of recipes that are proven to taste great as I have just started a new job alongside studying so don’t want to experiment with meals that don’t come out well and then I have no time to make something else! So please do continue to let me know of any keto meals you’ve tried at home xx

Oh I love the Diet Doctor recipes, but here's the link to the Fish Off, there might be something of interest for you there or if you look under recipes under Topics, theres hundreds of recipes x
I only have access to the free meals sadly and I’ve liked some of them!, but many of the dinner recipes do just taste like you’re eating an omelette. I’ll have a look at the link you’ve posted. Thank you!
How long are you planning to stay at keto level i.e. very low carb? As you'll know from the Diary, most low carb eaters don't maintain keto eating for more than a couple of weeks, because that's all that's needed and because of the limitations
I’m only on my second week of keto so keeping the carbs very low for now! Then I’ll gradually add more veg in. I can’t wait until I can have fruit!! Thank you for the link
I realise this may be a bit of a diversion, but I think the reason that many 'keto recipes' taste so awful is because they are highly processed attempts to 'fake' bread or potato and I'm not convinced they do it successfully.
The most successful swap I know is the awesome Cauliflower Rice. The rest of the time, my favourite 'keto recipes' really are simply fresh meat, fish, or eggs with a ton of veggies. Perhaps that's boring, I don't know.
Occasionally I'll branch out with 'real' carbs (portion controlled) because they are occasional, for that variety.
Either way, I hope other folks have ideas. I've come up blank on this one I'm afraid. 😕
I agree that the ones that taste awful are those attempting to imitate high carb foods. I do love cauliflower rice though! I’m having that with my curry tomorrow actually. So far, I’ve mainly been having meat, eggs and cauliflower/broccoli but there’s only so much cauliflower/broccoli I can take! Especially as the portion is so small for keto. I might just have to persevere with the same 4/5 dinners for now. I just saw the keto cracker recipe and hoped someone would know similar ways to add variety!
Do you like cabbage and leafy greens? White shredded cabbage is good raw with a yogurt style eastern sauce, great with meat. Cooked it makes a great substitute for pasta with either a carbonara sauce or a tomato based sauce. Darker greens are also good, spinach works with eggs and bacon for breakfast right through to a vegetable in its own right. Chard and kale are also very tasty as a side dish, and full of vitamins 😊
Here’s a few more vegetable ideas, these are all vegetarian but you could add meat if you wished
Yes I made keto coleslaw using cabbage but didn’t think of it for pasta. Will see how much I can have because that sounds lovely and I love carbonara! I do have spinach with my eggs each morning to make sure I’m still getting necessary nutrients. And mushrooms are my low carb go to. It’s just the portion size which is annoying. I’m not hungry but I’m sick of adding so much butter to foods whilst not having my favourite veggies. Today I was allowed 5 florets of broccoli and got excited! I will have a look at your link. Thank you!
I’m doing full keto as I’m only on my second week so still in the ‘induction phase’. It’s why my veg portions are so small. Lost just over 6lbs in my first week so seems to be going well! I just can’t wait until I can have more vegetables!
Bear in mind that most induction protocols allow green veg ad lib. Although they do contain some carbs, they're so dilute that (in practice) they don't affect your results and therefore aren't factored into your daily carb count.
I don’t know how keto this is, but it might be worth trying this pancake recipe?
Mix one large egg with a tbsp of ground almonds & pinch of sea salt. Fry it in a knob of butter on 3 mins each side. Eat with: berries & blob of Greek yogurt or: mix some grated cheese into the mixture for a savoury one.
Oo sounds lovely I’ll have a look at the nutritional information. I made the keto pancakes from diet doctor which had cottage cheese in, but I don’t eat much cottage cheese otherwise, so yours might save me some money with the shopping as I always have ground almonds in. Thank you!
I did that and ended up throwing the rest of the cottage cheese away as it went off (can't stand cottage cheese: it makes me think of diets!). I've done the recipe with cream cheese and it works well
What about avocados? I love caprese salad: avo's, mozzarella, baby plum tomatoes and any green leaf veg. I also like a twist of sea salt and a squeeze of lemon juice. Maybe you are not letting yourself have tomatoes yet, but the rest must be permitted?
You might have already tried this, if so please ignore! I hate all yoghurt except for full fat Greek yoghurt which I love and it tastes like a completely different thing to me. Ordinary plain yoghurt makes me shudder with its “tangy-ness”, full fat Greek yoghurt tastes more like cream to me. The Fage 5% fat one or Asda used to do their own brand 10% fat but I haven’t shopped there for a while.
I am a complete newbie to all of this, ( including this site) but was chatting with someone who was raving about the Keto plan which they are following so decided to investigate.... I am not doing anything formally yet, and most diet sites will offer you a free sample weeks menu but I searched " Keto menu plans" on google images which gave me several examples of weekly plans. An amalgamation of these helped me formulate a shopping list and menu guide for my first week of trying to shift some lbs. No specific recipes , sorry, but maybe some new meal ideas. . . .
Hi M0rv3n. I did the same as you when I started and have found some lovely meals. The problem is some (particularly the baking recipes) taste horrible and I’m fussy in terms of I don’t eat avocado and yogurt, so wanted to see if people had their favourite go to recipes that might bring some life to my list! Hope it all goes well for you.
I'll have another go...what about a curry, starting with coconut oil to cook assorted veg and chicken? The coconut oil does give such a nice flavour. Add any curry spices you like, and make it hot too if you like. You can then have it with cauliflower rice.
Thanks Bellaxo, sorry I wasn't much help, but I have found a nice recipe Chicken breast stuffed with pesto & Mozzarella, which I did with roasted Mediterranean veg, and, large flat mushrooms stuffed with cream cheese, chive, and grilled crispy smoked bacon which was quite filling with some "greens" .
The Fast800 book has lots of recipes that are whole foods which are low carb and not too high in fat. How about a portabello mushroom filled with one slice of ham and some Boursin cheese and drizzled with a little oil baked or grilled: delicious. Also take a look at sugarfreelondoner.com as there are lots of recipes on there - Granted most are for baking if that’s your thing. I’ve made the banana and walnut bread which is lovely using almond flour and erythritol as a sugar substitute. It’s a little non-sugar low carb treat.

Thank you for the links! I’m not too sure how well they’ll apply to keto because you need to eat lots of fat as well as low carb, but I shall have a browse to see if something works. I actually had mushroom ‘pizzas’ for lunch today!
Have a look at the harcombe diet recipes. They are not keto, but the fat meals are all keto. Just ignore the carb meals. She has an amazing celeriac chips recipe that is really good. Ellen Picton also has some good high fat recipes.

Hello Bellaxo, My husband and I have been eating low carb or keto for over a year and so enjoy our food. Quite a lot of my new recipes have come from Dietdoctor. Could you let me know which recipes you didn't like and that may give me an idea of which of our favourites recipes to send to you.
I admire you both for following the LC/keto diet for so long! I’ve only got the free version and have particularly struggled to enjoy the ‘baking’ recipes such as cloud bread, keto naan bread (or really anything with coconut flour really). I’ve found a lot of the free meals involve some sort of egg+ alternative flour crust/dough e.g. pies and pizzas, which just taste like omelettes. I also don’t eat avocados, yogurt (it’s fine in food like curries) and olives so want to find a way to incorporate more fat then just adding extra butter/oil. I would really appreciate any recommendations you have! I eat all types of meat and veg so it’s just unlucky that the few foods I don’t eat are the ones that would help me!
That's all helpful. Really no need to admire us! My husband and I only have ourselves to feed other than when visitors come, which during this strange time has consisted of socially distanced outdoors. Consequently it is easy for us to just keep the foods we want to eat in the house.
We don't include avocado in our meals. I would like to like them but they make me feel queasy. We have not counted calories or carbs. We didn't go all out keto at the beginning, but more gradually started substituting. We were having porridge now gone, croissants - gone and I had muesli 6 times a week with extra dates and bananas - gone.
So for breakfasts we have bacon, egg and tomato 4 times a week. (Eggs either fried or scrambled sometimes with extra cream. I love my dietdoctor granola with yogurt
(perhaps no good for you as you are not a yoghurt fan, my husband has become a serious expert at making really thick Greek yogurt) So far my granola mix hasn't had any coconut as I haven't found quite what I was looking for in my supermarket online listings.
and also my gloop as we call it a version of a dietdoctor recipe
I grind the large batch in my food processor and add 1 tsp of psyllium husk to each portion and make mine up with cream and water
whereas my husband may go fo pancakes berries and cream or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. He is still working on a perfect pancake recipe. Thinks almond flour, egg and cream will me his next attempt.
My old lunches of a variation of bread and cheese went and in have come
cheese omelette and veg, perhaps cabbage fried in butter
scrambled eggs and mushrooms
'Keto sponge' based on the following recipe with cream cheese and fresh chives
I use all light olive oil and no sesame oil, don't add seeds to the top or paint the top with oil and I cut it into 16 (not the 8 mentioned in the recipe) slices before freezing it interleaved with greaseproof paper. My husband also has half a slice of this fried with his bacon and egg breakfasts
we substitute red peppers and mushrooms my husband has problems with these with leeks and tomatoes, I sub out the peppers in the garam masala one above too
I have yet more favourite
alfredo chicken, the bolognaise, italian cabbage mince and meat balls with mozzarella which reminds me another lunch tomato salad with mozzarella and fresh basil
Enough! As you can probably tell we are enjoying lots. I do have a ramekin of yoghurt strawberries and blueberries and flaked almonds as part of my lunch. I could say loads more, but time has more than run out have fun finding recipes that you enjoy.
How could I left out hollandaise and bernaise (not the dietdoc recipe, we didn't like it at all), sauce? Also celeriac , boil in water til soft. Drian, freeze cooking water as vegetable stock for soup. Add unsalted butter and double cream and puree with hand held liquidiser/stick blender, salt and pepper to taste. And cheese sauce - heat double cream and melt in strong cheddar.
I would appreciate the recipe for the recipe for 4-minute keto crackers if you could forward it to me. Thank you. 😊
You are a saint! Thank you for all of this. Here’s the recipe I found from someone on this site! Went lovely with lots of full fat cream cheese gnom-gnom.com/easy-keto-cra...
The biggest challenge for me is not finding recipes but finding TASTY recipes so diet Doctor is a hit and miss. This has been my favourite so far . cafedelites.com/butter-chic.... It doesn’t say keto but it’s high fat low carb and I add extra butter because why not, it’s butter chicken! I usually make a really good curry but this one is just like out of a takeaway!
I lived off curries as a student so was just hoping people knew of recipes that were completely different or ones they’ve tried because now I’m back at work I have less time to be experimenting. A lot of pies on diet doctor just taste like egg but if there’s lots of recipes around I’m sure they’ll be a winner somewhere so thank you!
I know how you feel, low carb is very egg dependent, I love eggs, but having them too often can put me off! am trying out lots of recipes and trying to think if I could invent some of my own...we shall see! I am sure a keto/low carb cookbook is a very lucrative enterprise these days!!! 😉
I’m more of a hearty dinner kind of person rather than avocado salad if you know what I mean but some of these look nice so thank you I’ll see if there is anything worth having a go! Appreciate all the help
