Hello, i am new to all this, i have been on T3 since Aug 1, 2018. Previously to that i had been on NDT for 4 yrs. Toward the end i started experiencing painful trigger points in my back as well other hypo symptoms i never stopped having during that 4 yrs. I fell upon an article in regards to my trigger points, so with much prayer and consideration I made switch to T3 only. I am currently taking 40.5 mcg a day. My last dose is @ 4:30p and cannot tolerate anything after this time or i will not sleep. I am experiencing through the night as well as awaking hypo symptoms. I have also gained 6 lbs since starting T3 only. I have tried to increase my doseage and my skin starts feeling miserably dry and i am also experiencing mind raising and anxiety. So i started taking a low dose of NDT 4 days ago and last couple of days i feel achy and not quite myself. I am wondering if i cant take NDT. I am not sure what to do

I am currently taking on Vit D, K, A , E, magniusium, selenium, vit c, CoQ10, zinc, and methyl from Thorn for MTHFR.

There are 2 lab results below, first is from April 2018 when u was on NDT only, 2nd was drawn on Sept 23, 2018, i had been on t3 only since Aug1st. I split them. Done by 2 different doctors that didn't help much and won't do t3 only for patients. Also D3 low in both and i have increased to 7500 IU/day. Simple Advice greatly appreciated! Sorry this is a bit long.

I think your T3 is too low. Have you tried taking a very small dose of 5mcg at bedtime immediately before falling asleep?

I tried 2 or 3mcg, can't remember, right before bed, like swallow then lights out and i still could not sleep. My morning dose is @6a, i have even tried taking it 2 hrs before then hoping that would help, nope, couldnt go back to sleep.

How frustrating!!! This may change though, as your body and mind gets more used to T3 so it is worth trying a bedtime dose very occasionally when experimenting. How many doses do you split T3 over? Have you read Paul Robinson’s book Recovering with T3? Or joined the T3 only Facebook group? Think your dose of T3 is very low for someone on T3 only. It’s as important to spread the dose out correctly for you, as it is to be on the right dose. Blood tests not so helpful, but vital signs like pulse blood pressure and temperature more helpful. It is tricky to get right. I gave up eventually and added NDT, so now on T3 and NDT. Sometimes food makes me sleep :) Good luck, it’s worth it in the end!

Thanks Aurealis, I just received the the T3 manual by Paul Robinson. I haven't got to start reading yet with everything going on. I dose at 6a 15.5 mcg, 12p 14mcg & 4p 11mcg. I take my vitals on Mondays and Thursdays and keep a journal of them. What is your dose for NDT and what time do you take it. I may have to experiment again with t3 @ bedtime. It is frustrating, especially when you cant even depend on a Doctor for help. Appreciate your feed back!

Well I have taken doses at about the times you mention, but currently taking three doses 8 hours apart as referred to in a research paper on this site, with 1.75 Armour. How are you achieving those doses of T3, sounds like lots of split tablets. I think it’s bad news making doses changes, takes a while to settle. On T3 only I only ever felt at all well if I took a full 20mcg tablet each morning. There is a good explanation of why in the PR book ‘Recovering with T3’ (this is a different book to the manual, but if you already have that, start there).

I take tyronene, which is a liquid. Only because i put myself on it and last doctor, because of allergies issues ( i guess) to the ones she prescribed) advise me she wanted me to stay on the tyronene. Which if you ask me, splitting liquid is easier then pills. I did briefly (via IM) get to speak with Paul on dosing and he advise me i could add 6-12 mcg weekly to get my required dose. However, i am at a stopping point due to the miserably dryness of skin everytime i raise my dose, even by2 mcg's. Where are research papers you are speaking about located?

in reply to GentleSoul

I take my magnesium 2 hours before bed and I sleep well.

Is there something i can read in regards to adding back NDT. Or can you inform me what i need to look for and do to get correct dosage?

Sorry I don’t know. I didn’t feel well on T3 only and started to get worse not better so tried NDT as a last resort. It’s just a massive trial and error process as far as I can tell. I feel that the T3 in NDT is slow release as compared to T3. They seem to do different things. So T3 plus T3 and T4 from NDT seems to give me three elements. Works for me. Sorry I can’t be more helpful.
