Natural desiccated thyroid (NDT)

After lots of reading and my previous thread I'm looking to start on NDT. I've read the disclaimers etc. about getting NDT and will keep an eye out on my 'Chat' and check suppliers as necessary with admin. Cheers.

Hi all, I was initially on NDT 1 grain for 6 weeks and have now been on NDT 1 and 1/4 grain for 3 weeks. My husband and I have both noticed an extreme increase in obsessive/OCD related behaviours. It was all at bay and has been for years until this increase in the NDT.

As I've been using NDT since 2011, I'm trying to see if anyone knows any integrative doctors in Alicante/Valencia region who prescribe NDT.

What should my range look like on NDT? I’ve heard it’s not simple to interpret results on NDT Any advice would be appreciated.

hi all, Im switching from ndt to t3 as already take levo. Usually I take 60mg per day of ndt plus 100mcg Levo. My Levo without ndt was 150mcg. Can anyone give me some advice on how to transition from 60mg ndt to t3? The t3 tabs are 25mcg so I’ll need to cut them down

Hi Everyone, Just trying to understand, as Im bumbling along still not sorted. 2020 I tried 12.5mcg T3 only, with a 1/4grain NDT (cleared out the higher dose NDT over a period of time) .

hello, I have made the switch from 125mcg Levo to Roseway compound NDT 1 grain capsules (38mcg levo and 9mcg lio). Got to move up to 2 grains after 7-10 days. What equivalent dosage of NDT will I likely need? Wonder whether it will be 2 or 3 grains

My last blood test while on 3 grains ndt was: TSH 0.005 (0.27 - 4.2 uIU/mL) FT4 15.68 (12 – 22 pmol/L) FT3 3.84 (3.1 - 6.8 pmol/L) In Dec. 2024 I decided to switch to levo, mostly because I was fed up with struggling to get the ndt pills.

I have been well controlled on ndt for 10 years Ordered new thyroid s in August- and since then have gained nearly a stone! I feel awful- so tried, exhausted brain fog, heels so cracked, deeper voice. has anyone bought NDT from Thailand which doesn’t work? Thanks

Having been on NDT for many years I decided to give T3 a go instead. Been on it 2 months and my body likes it. However rashes/hives have developed on my lower legs and I remember having this itchy, unsightly symptom before ever taking NDT.

I’ve been noticing the increasing costs of private doctors and Natural Desiccated Thyroid (NDT), and I’m starting to question whether I can keep up with the payments. It’s frustrating because while NDT has helped, I still struggle with symptoms like insomnia, anxiety, and depression.

I would also like some information on NDT sources so if anyone could mail me with info I would be very grateful. Thank you

[private consultant prescription] Jan 2020: 25mg Thyroxin and 90mg NDT [after discussion with NHS GP] Mar 2021: 25mg Thyroxin and 60mg NDT [consultant suggested but felt exhausted again] Dec 2023: 25mg Thyroxin and 90mg NDT Jan 2024: 12.5mg Thyroxin and 90mg NDT which is my current dose.

My question is does this mean i will be getting less t3 as i understand NDT has a higher amount of t3? Also the transition from Levothyroxine to NDT was fairly smooth is this the case the other way around i assume it would be but not sure .

Can anyone reccomend a good Endocrinologist in the london area, preferably one who will perscripe NDT. Thanks!

I was on 125mcg Levothyroxine and still felt symptomatic so switched to NDT. Anyone else react badly? I can’t even take 1/2 grain without feeling lightheaded, headache, nauseous within 30mins of taking it!!

Has anyone successfully managed on Levo only after years of taking NDT? I have been on various combinations of Levo, NDT and am currently on 100mg Levo + 1 grain Thyroid-S for around 10 years. I tried 2 months of Levo only in the past but I started to put on weight and my TSH remained suppressed.

Does this apply to people taking ndt? My thought is since ndt has both T4,3,2,1 then it is already converted? Also working to bring up the folate, etc. As always....thank you!
