Steroids not working?
I’ve never had a course of
steroids
before where it hasn’t made me completely better. Have others had this experience please?

Inflammatory reaction to sugar and carbohydrate ?
That was before I was diagnosed and given
steroids
. I’ve now tried coming off
steroids
for about 3 weeks and I’m finding that sugar and carbohydrate can make me feel fluey after about 20 minutes. Food like marmalade on brown toast, maybe a little too much honey on yoghurt.

anti NMDA encephalitis
He had the
steroids
, the plasma exchange but it was the Rituximab that finally got it sorted. I’m just looking to connect with anyone that has suffered with it or their families?! We don’t have a big support network and appointments with professionals, surprisingly, seem so few and far between.

Blood tests 'normal' but PMR symptoms
I have a GP appointment tomorrow and will be asking to be put back on
steroids
, despite the normal bloods, as the discomfort is interfering with my usual activities and sleep etc. Anyone with similar experience?

High blood pressure
Could the
steroids
be a contributing factor? Also is this something I should bring to my rheumatology teams notice? Thank you 😊 Mel

first respiratory appt tips please
I’ve had 3 exacerbations in the last year, 2 of which needed
steroids
. Between the 2nd & 3rd (Aug - Nov) I continued to cough and coughed most days until about 4 weeks. I’ve had a normal chest X-ray and spirometry was pretty normal too. Thanks.

GCA or Occipital Neauralgia
I’ve had a biopsy which came back negative, because previously my doctor prescribed
steroids
for inflammation and head pain. Rheumatologist prescribed 50mg of prednisone after a while to be gradually reduced.

steroids & diabetes
And I think the
steroids
caused it . My Gp told me off as my HCb 1a was far too high . I explained I’d been on
steroids
. I am worried incase I end up type 1 diabetes! And should I refuse
steroids
if doctors want me to take them ?

Balancing symptoms and pred dosage?
This wears off once he's up and moving and the
steroids
have kicked in. My question is, given that prolonged inflammation causes damage, and that unnecessarily high steroid use worsens side effects, is there a rule of thumb about symptoms versus dosage?

slightly anxious and just looking for moral support
Also have my first rheumatology appointment 5th January and am anxious as I keep reading they try to get you off
steroids
quickly. I’m stuck at 5mg as each time I reduce I flare.

update on grumpy Grampy
Grumpy Grampy is doing well, he’s off the
steroids
, after two years. Struggling a little with that, he’s ok if I keep my hands off his neck😉 he’s taking codiene, for the cough which helps a little, well was until the pharmacies can’t get hold of it🤷♀️ using oxygen whenever he needs it.

Mood and sleep disturbance on longterm steroids- useful article, page 1
I had no idea that
steroids
can make it hard to regulate mood and feel motivated. A psychologist specialising in the area explains how this happens and suggests ways we might be able to counter those effects.

Anyone had this?
This did not clear it so I was given a course of
steroids
. My bloods showed no infection but I was coughing up green phlegm. When I was breathing I could hear my chest “rattling”. The
steroids
eased it a little but it was still quite severe.

paxclovid
They told me to take Paxclovid for 5 days but not to take any
steroids
during that time. Now slightly panicked as I'm feeling pretty rough anyway. I'm on 4 mgs currently and decreasing slowly to 3.5. Should I take the meds and cut out
steroids
? Seems rather drastic. Thanks

Do I have heart failure or heart disease?
I put this down to PMR/tapering
steroids
- a known and common symptom. But now I am not so sure. I had a NM Myocardial Perfusion scan in February 2024. This showed that part of my heart muscle was not getting an adequate blood supply.
