Eyesight improvement on Prednisolone

Hi there, my first post. So I thought my eyesight was going a little blurry and went for a test last week. It turns out that my mid range sight is actuality a lot better than it was 2 yrs ago. Down to +0.5 from +1.5. The optician said it was due to the steroids and can sometimes happen. I have to go for yearly tests now as I’m on steroids.

Hi and welcome. Some of us found our sight varied - and over short periods of time! I think my sight varied with PMR on its own too.

I think my sight varies daily, some mornings I struggle but by lunchtime it is so much better. I think they don’t wake up as early as I do!

With my cataracts my vision has improved to where I only need a small prescription for reading. My vision is blurry, WITH my glasses, because they are too strong. I have tri-focals. Currently using the middle lens for reading as it's weaker, but clearer. Nothing for distance. Will get a new Rx after I have my cataracts done, if I need one. One of the few "improvements" since PMR.

Cataract removal helped my sight but the new lenses mean I now need reading glasses

Mine is pretty good 20. 20 vision corrected with glasses. Yet sometimes my vision seems a bit blurry.

thanks! Who knows? Had permanent lenses put in when had cataracts. About 6 years ago. Amazing could still read small print without glasses.. but can’t be reversed or removed… and think they have something to do with the blurred vision I’m having now?! (If not cos of reducing of pred?! )

Hallo Sausage 44I have to say do not worry until you need to.

The blurriness might right itself.

Always get something checked out if it bothers you.

Less than a month ago I lost first , briefly, sight in one eye, then balance, taste, numeracy and ability to write properly.

Gradually all returned now except balance not quite there yet.

If you get really nasty things like sudden loss of vision in one eye or both because you get what looks like cracked mirror glass with orange and black slashes completely obscuring vision or

what looks like a large mouse blocking vision then get to an optician or eye hospital.

No it is nothing like the aura one gets with migraine...

Constant blood vessels bursting in eye is also a bother. Ask an optician about these.

If you have GCA and get any loss vision or disturbance then get it seen to ASAp

If you see the optician whenever anything odd occurs then no worries.

Reduce preds very slowly. The body is very responsive to the slightest decrease. Or a sudden large increase.

I recently lost some vision from left eye

The hospital upped the preds to 60. to prevent loss of sight from GCA.

NOT good at all. Refused them after a couple of days... put back on ten mg.

I am now on 9mg...reducing one every five weeks... Hands that were virtually pain free now telling me not all is well. I tell them just be patient.

So if I should be blessed enough to live another45 weeks..( needed the extra time as have loose ends to tie up)..I will be pred free at last.

Yes preds are magic but they do have evil side effects as i and others have experienced

They affect the immune system so that one can no longer conquer those ordinary things like chest infections etc.

And what I would like to know is do the sleeping adrenals kick in as soon as the last pred taken loses effect...and what if they don't.?

Happy Christmas.
