Statins/PMR
I was put on statins 4 weeks ago due to high cholesterol readings at GP surgery. A week ago, I started experiencing muscle pain across shoulders, front and back - fine if I am sitting still but achey if I move in certain ways. I have been rubbing in Uddermint cream every evening as it seems to get

Hi guys, So I have battled for as long as I've been underactive with high LDL cholesterol, high trigs too of 3. And by high I mean over 8. It is currently at 7.2. I've read that high cholesterol is apparently directly linked to being on inadequate dose of levothyroxine and cholesterol levels will improve

Coronary artery calcification, osteoporosis and B12 deficiency- what to do next ?
I have just been found to have coronary artery calcification incidentally when having a Lung Healthcare scan. This information was passed to my GP who wants to put me on statins (Atorvastatin 20mg daily). I have no idea of the severity or extent of the calcification, only that it was found. I don't

incredibly lucky
I feel so incredibly lucky after reading some of your stories. I had a HA 5 yrs ago, was told that if someone has to have a HA they would want one like yours? It was explained to me that it was on the right side and very low down?? I stayed overnight in hospital and the first time I saw a consultant

Prioritise quality of life
I just read an article based on Chris Whitty's speech. Just remove some focus on old-age. And re-focus on all too many of us almost regardless our ages. [i]
Prioritise quality of life over prolonging it for elderly, Chris Whitty tells medics

Leg Pain
Hi all, I have had historical sore and achy leg muscles but since the thrombus in my heart, heart attack and medication I think it has got worse. I stopped taking statins for a while and that allowed me to run again ok but I still have achy and sore muscles. It’s mainly hamstrings but a bit in my calves

continued RLS after stopping statin
As one post I read here said, many here may know and accept that statins can cause RLS. My PCP is sceptical of this and wondered why I still have RLS if I no longer take a statin. I was just wondering if anyone here found that stopping statins helped with RLS. Thanks!

Statin use and outcomes of oncological treatment for castration-resistant prostate cancer - From the Finnish poulation, Nature, 11/01/23
As a follow-up to recent posts on statins and PCa, here is another Euopean study, this time from the Finns. As noted in the Abstract below, they come to the conclusion of no/little benefit for crPCa, but maybe some for csPCa. The apparent pooling of data for specific type/form of statin does not provide

Cholesterol, Hypothyroidism, Statins
The issue of elevated cholesterol in those with undiagnosed/under medicated hypothyroidism used to be commonly known. Not so now, the information is out there but not sufficiently joined up and prominent in many doctors minds to be a frontline consideration. Thus we need to be well versed so we can

prasugrel
I have been taking aspirin with Prasugrel for 12 months since my HA and have now been told by my surgery to stop the Prasugrel and continue with Aspirin. I take ramipril and statins etc as normal but not prasugrel.I have read that it can be taken for up to 30months although this can increase the risk

Can an excess of carbimazole (hyperthyroid medidaction) cause high triglycerides? How long does it take to normalise levels?
Last February 2023 I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, apparently autoimmune, and since then I have been taking carbimazole. It seems that the dose I was taking was too high (combining 10-20mg every 2 days) and last July I switched to hypothyroidism. Since the beginning of October (the last 4-5 weeks

Statins and muscle damage.
can someone furnish me with some evidence eg studies or scientific paper which shows conclusively that statins cause muscle damage, particularly in thyroid sufferers.

Atorvastatin and Ibrutinib
Just look for any others on Atorvastatin and Ibrutinib? Been advised that I should go ahead after 5 years of delaying. I have put a question into my haematology team as to the acceptability of Atorvastatin, I know certain statins should not be taken with Ibrutinib.
