My cholesterol was slightly raised, and was asked if I would try statins, I am IBS-D and almost instantly, I was constipated, after 2 days, I had an impacted bowel, never have I had any problems before, took 8 weeks on very strong laxatives to remove it, never again . Blinking tablets. They don’t agree with everyone

Yes, they tried 3 different statins before they found at the lowest dose one that suited me. I have the genetic type of high cholesterol and mine was dangerously high so I had to persevere. The one I found had the least side effects was Rosuvastatin. A neighbour was the same as me and that is the one that also suited her the best. If I could have controlled mine with exercise and diet I would have done but it made no difference to my readings. Hope you can find something that suits you.x

I saw a community nurse, who told me my cholesterol was very high (8), she asked me to let my GP know which I did but the GP said I don’t need any meds as I’m low risk since we never had any heart attack or stroke in the family.

Believe or not I’m on healthy diet except the occasional cake or dark chocolate which I start using about 6 months ago. She advised me using lots of olive oil which I do in cooking turns into saturated fat raising the cholesterol 🤔

Q is true or false ? 🤷‍♀️I can’t win 🏆

Olive oil is not saturated fat. It is mostly monounsaturated fatty acid (omega-9) and is good for the heart. Of course never use too much of even a good thing. Dose makes the poison.

Donno, that’s what the nurse told me, she asked me to use it raw, like pouring it in salad etc but not too much of it in cooking. Have to say I used it excessively as I’m really allergic to too many food and I just don’t want to eat dust. Thanks for letting me know xx

We're all been told that heating olive oil past its smoke point creates harmful compounds and will destroy most of what makes olive oil healthy in the first place (i.e., the free-radical fighting polyphenols).

But that's not true, according to recent scientific research

esciencepress.net/journals/...

—which tells us that high-quality extra virgin olive oil that has not been refined or blended with other oils is, in fact, highly stable when heated. It not only has a high smoke point, but most importantly, it does not break down into harmful compounds like other oils when heated at high temperatures.

To watch the intake amount is important because it is still fat, and too much dietary fat will lead to unwanted weigh gain which will increase chronic pain and all other health problems.

Hi Lisa

I tend to agree with you, I was very surprised by the nurses comment. I’m into functional medicine and sometimes listen to a podcast of an American scientist/heart surgeon who says consuming olive oil in cooking is good for you. I know everything in moderation but I tend to pass that as I love olive oil and is a good source of fuel ⛽️ for me

Thanks for the link. You Admin guys are great 👍 so thank you so much xx

I had very high cholesterol last year and instead of taking the statins I was prescribed I started taking sterol capsules from Peak Supps and a desert spoonful of olive oil every morning. After another test three months later my cholesterol was back in the normal range so I continue with this.Get the best olive oil you can and I take a mouth full of water with it because a good cold pressed olive oil will likely make you cough.

Had to stop statins as they affected lower limb movements/trouble walking. Am now taking a fibrate tablet which was used before statins were used. Much more ameniable. Talk to your Dr. Took a while to find the right one but worth the wait. Good luck.
