Lab results, any tips, advice etc is very welcome!

Hi all,

Today I visited the endocrinologist. This was the second time I went to this one, after getting stuck with previous internists who only were willing to treat upon TSH and FT4. I I'm on 0.1375 levothyroxine and 4 times a day 5 mcg liotyronine. I still have lots of hypo symptons, most problematic are the fatigue, constipation and joint and muscle problems. The endo was willing to raise the levo back to 0.15 (which I was on till mid August when a previous internist lowered it to 0.1375.). He could not link the symptoms to my thyroid. He said my diabetes type 1 (which I have for 40 years now) may just as well cause these, because everything deteriorates faster with diabetes. Also being (peri)menopausal often gives comparable syptoms, he said. I told him I don't want to just accept that if it is not proven and if I have not tried other things to improve. I just want to feel good and I especially think the gut has to be OK. In my first appointment he turned off my request for a feaces test on bacteria/fungi/parasites. The solution for constipation he now offered was magnesium hydroxide tablets. I got a recipe but will first start to take the increased levo to find out if that will make adequate difference. I now have lab results from end of November. I would be happy to receive interpretations, tips, advice, thoughts, here from you, which may be of help to manage improvements as much as possible myself. It is quite a list. And it seems impossible to get it in a sort of table. The list first gives the name, than the reference range, and than the value measured.

Thanks so much in advance!

Jocelin

Just a quick comment as running late so only looking at Thyroid results. You are under medicated! Both FT4 and FT3 are below halfway through the range and theyvneed to b at least in the top third. The 4 tests you should be doing to help your thyroid work at its best are Vit D, B12, folate and ferritin but they need to be optimal, not just in range.

Thanks for your effort despite running out of time! I picked up the increased dose of levo at the pharmacy today and will start tomorrow. The liotyronine dose remains the same though. The endo proposed to put me on 0.1625 levo and throw the liotyronine in the trashcan. I refused because I feel I need the T3. I hope my T3 bloodvalue will rise with the increased levo....

The others bloodmarkers you mentioned seem in the high end of the range except the ferritin. I started taking iron + vit C a few weeks ago but am confused suddenly after hearing a presentation on youtube from Morley Robbins to avoid taking these supplements because they ruin the magnesium and copper absorption. I'm gonna search for more info on that.... In case you have relevant knowledge, I'd be happy to learn!

I think the secret is to test everything and then treat accordingly so to keep the body in balance

Thanks, Londinium. My vit D level is 175 nmol/l. My endo mentioned it to be very high but gave no further advice. I take a supplement but am since the lab results taking it 1 per 2 days instead of 1 per day.

Thanks again :-) . I know Bernstein, but haven't taken a look at his advices for some time. Nice to be remembered of him!

Are you on strictly gluten free diet?

With type one diabetes many functional medics recommend it

Hi SlowDragon,

Thanks for your reply. I was tested several times in my life for coeliac disease or gluten intolerance but values were in normal range. The last few years gluten in relation to DM1, and thyroid problems, indeed gets more and more attention in the alternative circuit. Because I am getting more and more physical problems I started eating glutenfree since last August. I have not felt any difference yet but will keep gluten out of my diet anyway. In daily life I find it no problem. During special occasions it's pretty difficult though, but so far I managed well :-).
