Hi, I'm new here. While I'm away from home - I need someone to sit with mum for a few hours.
Hi, I'm primary carer for mother who has vascular dementia and advanced glaucoma. As I need to be out of the house for approximately 6 hours in order to have a blood transfusion, having being diagnosed with anemia, I need someone to sit with mum until my return. Could anyone advise who I can contact

My Doctor is Ignoring My Concerns
Good Day, For two years now, I have been telling my doctor that something is not right with me and that it is hormonal because, two years ago I suddenly gained 20kgs in a span of 6 months. My breasts go bigger, I became very weak, dizzy, constipated, unhappy and down, and experience symptoms of Hypothyroidism

Morning all glad I found this forum. My daughter is 8 and has hbss. He crisisis are frequent and intense. Often at least 14 days in hospital. She is on all the usual daily medicine such as folic acid, penicillin, hydroxrea and we have morphine and such at home for pain relief. She was on weekly transfusions

Shall I cancel our holiday or can I get sufficient insurance?
My husband was diagnosed with Cirrhosis of the Liver due to alcohol in December 2015, although he probably had the disease a while before that. He gave up drinking 4 years ago this February. We went on a pre-booked holiday to Croatia and even before we got there I knew he wasn't well, anyway he ended

Uncertainty
Hello everyone! I am new to this site. I live in the US but this seems to be a great place to chat through the many questions and issues that come with a diagnosis of alcohol-related cirrhosis. I had a life-threatening episode back in April that landed me in the hospital for a week with a blood transfusion

Sad new year 2017
Had a phone conversation with Dad's consultant yesterday. I wanted to clarify in my mind where we actually are with his cll. Sadly, my fears have been confirmed...he is now end stage, now needing blood transfusions every 2/3 weeks, this is what's keeping him alive, but Dr expects he will be unable to

Relieved the Liver Biopsy is over
Hello all. I hope you all had a pain free christmas, and were not stuck cooking all over the holidays. I had the liver biopsy yesterday and I am so relieved, but I don't know why I am. I have to get the results yet and everytime I think about it, it really turns my stomach. Feeling a bit low to be honest

Never heard of Myeloma until my mother got diagnosed!
My mother had been having back pain of weeks, months. Kept going to the doctors. I think they were putting it down to her age. She is only 70!!! They were treating her from groin problems and said she had constipation and gave her powders. It too my dad to then get a private consultation. The first

After Ibrutinib failure, lymphocytes up again. Maybe another trial with Idealisib
Now 8 months since I had to stop the FLAIR trial of Ibrutinib and Rituximab due to side effects (severe and debilitating muscle and joint pain) I have been pretty well with bloods within normal limits. Now, sigh, the lymphocyte count is up again and the concern is how quickly this will increase. It

Zero neutrophils.
Dad now seems to be needing blood transfusions every couple of weeks. Low red cells. Progression of his cll. In hospital today getting a transfusion, last Monday he had his immunoglobulin therapy. Hospital has phoned to say he is neutropenic, zero neutrophils, keep people away if they have an infection

Hello all After feeling quite smug that I had retained a positive outlook I am now in the doldrums...........I'm due to have 5th chemo in second line next Thursday (22nd) and I know that I will be feeling rubbish over the Christmas period - this chemo (Carbo/Cyclophosphamide + Avastin) is knocking me

I went to A&E yesterday with severe pain for the second time in two months. Diagnosed with acute recurring hepatitis
Hi all, I just wanted to post an update on my previous posts. I went to hospital on Wednesday as an outpatient where I had an endoscopy done. This was arranged by the consultant I saw in November after going to A&E in October, when I had very high LFT results. I decided to have the throat spray without

Why iron is such an important part of your diet
Anaemia can often develop with CLL, both during Watch and Wait (haemoglobin falling under 10/100 is one of the triggers for starting treatment), and during treatment, when blood transfusions may be required. Cancer & Sepsis
About time SEPSIS was targeted ... sepsis kills more cancer patients than cancer its self. With any infection cancer your blood gets tired worn down SHOULD blood transfusions be more readily available . Its great to see Immunotherapies move beyond cancer, with foray into sepsis. https://www.statnews.com

No chemo today - blood transfusion instead - any anaemia tips?
Real downer yesterday (I had it in my head that my last chemo would be in 2016 and 2017 would be all about recovery) to be told no chemo today (no. 5 of 6) as am severely anaemic. Instead am having 2 units of blood. Does anyone else on Carbo have experience of anaemia? And do blood transfusions help

At last I've found you all
Hi everyone, Recently I joined this forum as last yr, I had debilatating Anaemia fr Jan until May. My body wasn't digesting Ferrous Fumerate so my iron intake didn't increase, even tho my levels were low & below average, my GP wouldn't refer me for liquid Iron Infusions. GP advised me to ask my Rheumatologist
