Hi, I'm new here. While I'm away from home - I need someone to sit with mum for a few hours.

Hi, I'm primary carer for mother who has vascular dementia and advanced glaucoma. As I need to be out of the house for approximately 6 hours in order to have a blood transfusion, having being diagnosed with anemia, I need someone to sit with mum until my return. Could anyone advise who I can contact for this type of service? Thank you.

Thinking about this - I wonder if you could contact your surgery who might recommend someone. How about streetlife.com but you have to be sure that you can rely on anyone coming forward. Local age concern or dementia group Possibly the Red Cross/social services.

I think Age UK offers a befriending service. It's worth contacting your local branch and asking.

Try Adult Social Care, have you not got a social worker helping with your problems? They have offered me help with sitters when i need them.

CarerDaughter --- have you tired the Princess Royal Trust For Carers, Dementia Advice Service or the Alzheimer's Society? We found all of them really helpful in getting the relevant support we needed through the different stages of mum's care. With firstly someone sitting with mum for a couple of hours, so my dad could have a break.
