Seven years ago, I had a quintuple bypass and a heart valve reconstruction. I am on atorvastatin atenolol lisinopril tamsulosin finasteride. My lab work of these years has been kept in the green for the most part. I’ve been hearing a lot lately about how statins have side effects, and how cholesterol

Gout - why fish protein but not beer?
I’d like to thank you for the comments so far but we really are not getting close to an answer. Here’s hoping. I’m not talking high purine fish, I’m talking fish that’s often regarded as safe. I’ve been getting gout attacks for over 12 months. The first put me in hospital but since then these have

hypothyroidism and cholesterol
I was diagnosed as hypo in 2019 following a routine blood test. I had no symptoms that I was aware of and noticed no changes after TSH and T4 values were normalised with 75mcg Levothyroxine. Test results in 2019 were TSH 22.9 (0.4 - 4.0) T4 8.6 (9 - 25) Subsequent readings vary but average 2 and

AF and statins
Hello.I’d appreciate some advice. Four years ago I had atrial flutter. I had cardioversion and was put on blood thinners and BP meds. In the last few months it has returned as PAF. My ECG watch goes red every other day for hours or days. It can come on its own or be triggered by exercise. When exercising

Case report: Rhabdomyolysis and kidney injury in a statin-treated hypothyroid patient-kill two birds with one stone
This case report has a good side: the patient did get diagnosed and treated. But that only follows the dreadful treatment - missing cause of high cholesterol, took statins, rhabdomyolysis, kidney injury. Claims to have been reversed. (I'd like to see the patient's opinion!) But questionable whether

Thank you for your replies to my question. I will ask as soon as I next see doctor. It still appears to be a minefield of choices when you have Nash and diabetes as well as all the other ailments that come with being 75. I’m fortunate to be quite fit but do work at it so one good thing. Thanks again

Worried that my heart health is in a downward phase
Late 2019 had stent to LAD following full blood clot occlusion and heart attack (did not arrest). I was diagnosed with LVSD in a later echo and advised had EF of 40. Another echo about a year later and EF still same. Since July 23rd this year have been experiencing constant AF (all day and night without

Narrowing Arteries
Hi there - I don’t post too much but find this site amazing and so supportive. What a great community for everyone. It’s so nice to hear everyone sharing their stories and getting some great advice back. I do have one question tho. I had a stent last year, for a 99% blocked artery. I have another narrowed

confused
Back in January I had tests and Drs were not convinced I had angina but put me on Asprin and statins. By March after diet, pains seemed to go away but have come back in July. That’s weird on its own. My BP is good, so is my cholesterol but I can’t really walk more than 2 mins without a pain. The GTN

Advice please
Following previous posts on this forum I have now, over a few months, decreased my Ropinirole from 8 tablets per day to 1 1/2 and will be decreasing to 1 per day on the 19th August when I will begin my Pregabalin treatment as suggested by Sue. Can you give me any indication how long it will take for

Appt at Lipids Clinic and discussion about thyroid levels
So I had an appointment this morning at the Lipids Clinic, referred by GP, as total cholesterol was 8.7, when annual thyroid bloods taken earlier this year. I said to GP that I didn’t want to automatically go onto statins because of counter-indications and that I thought perhaps I should increase

Asparin - after breakfast or before exercise?
Hello everyone, I'm wondering if anyone had a similar dilemma & what they decided or were told to do about it? I like to exercise first thing in the morning, long hilly walks nothing too serious. (I go to the gym later in the day 3 times a week, but that's after eating) I was put on statins & asparin

Statins and dreams
Hi all, I know that statins can cause vivid dreams according to the side effects sheet I have with my Lipitor Atorvastatin. I never used to even notice my dreams until I started with those pills. Luckily my dreams are just vivid and memorable rather than hideous and scary! My question is do people

Inflammation much greater risk than cholesterol
I read an article in New Scientist which reported on research into heart attacks and strokes: https://www.newscientist.com/article/2363381-a-common-and-treatable-cause-of-heart-attacks-is-being-overlooked/ It found that inflammation was a much greater risk of heart disease than cholesterol.
