HiMy bloods were done on Thursday 14th September at 9am in the morning, I didnt take my medication that morning and stopped B complex a week before.

Last test was done 6 weeks previous and levo was increased then from 75 mg to 100 mg.

Results are

B12 128 (51.0 - 165)

Folate 7.2 ( 3 - 20 )

Ferratin 81 (10 - 300 )

Vitamin D 152 (50 - 225 )

TSH 0.80 (0.35 - 4.94 )

TF3 4.5 (2.4 - 6 )

TF4 14 ( 9 - 20 )

Cholesterol 7.7

Thyroud antibodies were tested on 10th August 2023, they won't test again for 6 months I was told they were 199 on the last test.

GP wants me to take statins

Any advice on these results would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Don't take statins. Your cholesterol is high because your FT3 is too low. You are under-medicated. High cholesterol is a symptom, not a disease, and it won't do you any harm.

I would imagine your antibodies are over-range, aren't they? In which case, it means you have Hashi's as the cause of your hypothyroidism.

Your folate and ferritin are too low.

Thank you, do I need to increase my levo?Do I need to take more vitamins for folate and ferratin?

I would say yes, you need a 25 mcg increase in levo.

How much folate is in the B complex you're taking? Is it folic acid or methylfolate?

Are you taking any iron?

Thorne's is one of the good ones. But try Igennus B-complex. It's tablets and they're not very big.

Free T4 (fT4) 14 pmol/L (9 - 20) 45.5%

Free T3 (fT3) 4.5 pmol/L (2.4 - 6) 58.3%

You seem to be converting very well but your FT4 is stll below 50%. Even a 12.5mcg increase might help things.

Vit D is good.

Ferritin keep an eye on. Its not bad at all now, 90-100 is said to be optimal.

Folate looks on the low side. What are you taking for that? A good B complex would help keep all your B vitamins in balance. This B complex has all the right vitamins at a not unreasonable cost for 90 days supply. amazon.co.uk/Liposomal-Soft...

It's ideal if you can always get the same brand of levo at every prescription. You can do this by getting GP to write the brand you prefer in the first line of the prescription. Many people find that different brands are not interchangeable.

Thank-you I do keep to the same brand of levo I am taking Thorne B complex but must admit to not taking it regularly as I can't swallow the big capsules so try putting it in yogurt but it dosn't taste nice , I will check out the ones you have recommended.

Thank you

My thoughts on your test results. Don't need statins! But your folate and B12 are low. B12 has a huge reference range, which makes a nonsense of it. One of the B12 organisations (I can't recall which) says anything below 500 is deficient. The trouble is B12 supplements can raise the blood levels of the vitamin but not get into the cells. It might be worth you trying a B12 drops supplement. One that puts tasteless drops under your tongue. If you feel strong for the battle ahead, it would be worth taking this level of B12 and folate up with your GP and asking them to test for pernicious anaemia before starting a supplement. They should also look at your red blood cell size. Megaloblastic red blood cells points to a B12 deficiency too.

Ferritin is hard. I struggle to get it to where it should be and keep it there. I take an iron supplement but I also make sure to eat as much iron rich food as I can. Chicken liver pate on toast, black pudding with eggs for breakfast etc. I don't like liver as just liver.

Not what you're looking for?
