cramp or aching legs

hi all

So I’m back trying to find an answer for my legs my calves ache all the time I’m on simvastatin

Went to the docs who found a pulse in my ankles and suggested it might be the statins so I had a blood test which was fine

Couldn’t get to see him had to see another doctor who contradicted the first one and was going the route of blood flow-pad type thing

Then contradicted himself a few times then back to blood flow and suggested I make an appointment to get the blood pressure in my leg measured

Docs receptionist didn’t know what that was and said she will get back to me

So now I’m waiting

Anyone with similar experience

I always have achey legs and it seems to always be my right leg and I have tried mentioning to the consultant and they weren't bothered which I guess is a good thing but still don't understand why I'm having so much trouble with legs x hope you find out what's causing it ❤️😢

I've got legs that ache, especially during the night. I'm on Atorvastatin and I blame them🤔. My legs are not as bad as they used to be when I was taking 80mg, now I'm on 40mg.You could always ask your GP to change them to another statin to see if they're any better.

I'm worried about PAD at the minute. My legs are aching and I've lost hair on the outside of one. Docs seem to be fobbing me off with my anxiety at the moment. But I'll keep on at them. Worth you doing so too if it's causing you bother!

hi yes I have leg problems and am on statins, have diabetes type 2 of nearly 30 yrs and now waiting for aortic valve replacement

I've just begun some magnesium supplement in the eve will keep u posted on that

I had the same issues with atovastatins too. It's not so bad now but I think the turning point was when I started climbing the Wainwrights in the lake district.

I had pain in both legs in the same place from taking Simvastatin. So much so that when getting up during the night my left leg tended to give way. My doctor did say that as the pain is in both legs in the same place it could be Simvastatin causing it. Simvastatin is the lowest-cost statin together with Lovastatin the reason doctors usually prescribe these. Now I'm on Rosuvastatin and the pain went over a period of weeks and now about 8 months later the pain has not returned.

Rosuvastatin is 5 times the price of Simvastatin and some doctors are reluctant to prescribe it. Fortunately, my doctor is of the kinder version and not looking so much at the £ signs - some do.

Hard this. I think my blood pressure medication can cause my legs to ache. It's a funny ache. Not painful but there, noticeable. Just had a blood test the full liver, bone , bloods and the standard U and Es. And the only discrepancy I can see is the creatinine had gone up in a month? But the text came back your bloods are normal. I do feel that my lisinopril is causing these feelings but I carnt put my finger on it. Won't be able to discuss with doctor until early October. Naturally anxiety is not helping. But I just want to feel a bit more energy. But bloods do seem to be within limits. My hemoglobin is high but that's how my body copes with my condition and has always been high. I have been on lisinopril for over a year but these feelings in legs and lethargy have been there. But it is draining trying to come to terms with it. Unless by cutting down my lisinopril from 25mg to say half. ? But the trouble is you become a hypochondriac because your mind takes over. I don't know the answer really.

Last week I rang my GP practice for an appointment and the practice now have the receptionist screen all the calls first and they decide who gets to see a doctor. I have a huge problem with this approach to appointments, firstly and with all due respect to doctors receptionist they are not medically qualified, secondly I was asking for an appointment for a swelling on my neck which I waited a couple of months with in case it disappeared of its own accord. The receptionist said I didn't need to see a doctor and would allocate me a phone call from a doctor. Now I'm no doctor but I did say to her nicely so how is the doctor going to look at this lump down the phone? She was adamant it's a phone call. I then explained I was already booked in by the practice the week before for a phone call regarding some recent tests.

The outcome of this was when the GP with the pre booked phone appointment rang me after he informed me of my test results I told him I was awaiting another phone call regarding the swelling in my neck and can the doctors see down the phone now. He said their practice was better than some and made me a face to face appointment with a brilliant trainer GP, he also told me I didn't have a heart problem it was normal after my tests last year which by the way diagnosed mild CAD and moderate LVH, I wanted to ask him and didn't why was I then prescribed by the cardiologist Ramapril for my high blood pressure, Clopidrogel instead of asprin, statins for cholesterol. I guess either my GP is wrong or all my identified and tested cardiac problems are in my head.

The trainee GP who I told what had been said by the other GP said I wouldn't say you don't have a heart problem, and I now have an urgent scan booked for next week for the swelling on my neck which may also be cardiac related, however I don't have a heart problem.

I was on Simvastatin for years with no apparent problems, then a few years back, the surgery changed it to Atorvastatin without any prompting from me.

My surgery is pretty good at informing patients and seem to be aware of any concerns with medications.

I do get right leg cramp now and again in bed, but it's mainly down to me fidgeting.

Personally, even if the cramp is statin induced, and I've no proof it is, then I think the benefits outweigh any discomfort.

Having seen my father go through strokes and heart attacks, anything that helps prevent that has to be welcome.

Simplest thing is to ask them to change your statin while you wait for other tests. I felt like that on atorvastatin yet simvastatin is fine for me.

I don't take a statin, but my blood pressure medication ( Amlodipine and Ramipril) causes cramps in my calves. Does it signify anything of concern?

many people suffer joint and leg pain from statins, and it is common for several brands to be tried before the best one for you is found. Many people are now being given Atorastatin, which seems to be tolerated well by many-ask for a different brand to see if it helps.

Not what you're looking for?
