Hi I've been diagnosed with high cholesterol (6.7) been prescribed statins to help. I'm following a healthier diet and I'm trying to get more exercise.
High cholesterol : Hi I've been... - British Heart Fou...
High cholesterol
I was the same a year ago but diet and excercise didn’t make a difference. I was very reluctant to go on Statins but they have reduced levels .
I am pleased by chance this was found and medication has improved my medication. It took a couple of months for me to be stable but I can now forget that constant nag at the back of your head!!
Hope you get settled quickly.
My experience was exactly the same as Carecmb. Life style changes made very little difference to my cholesterol scores, but statins made a huge difference.
Some of my heart attack and stroke risk factors, things like blood pressure or HbA1c scores, were extremely responsive to life style changes, but cholesterol fell into a different category. Fortunately I wasn't relying entirely on life style changes, and there was effective medication to fix that particular problem.
Good luck!
Hello
Looks like they posted and now have gone it says hidden but a great reply from you as always
Hope you are keeping well x
I thought "Hidden" was this person's name...how incredibly thick is that!
Keeping very well thank you, and likewise I hope you're tickety boo!
Just in case Hidden comes back, I also had a surprise finding of high cholesterol. Higher than this ! Massive efforts of lifestyle measures, losing a lot of weight(I wasn’t overweight) and increasing the frequency of going to the gym and to classes didn’t really make a noticeable difference.
Statins have brought the level down. I recently had to have 6 months off as I had an unrelated issue that needed a non compatible drug and the cholesterol shot back up alarmingly despite eating a careful diet.
I have not had any side effects and I am grateful to be on these drugs which should hold the detrimental effects of high cholesterol from impacting more negatively on my health.
