New here & hoping to get some feedback on thyroid bloods.

Hi everyone. I'm new here so brief introduction. My name is Lisa, I'm 28 and from Hartlepool in North East, England. I've had hidradenitis suppurativa since I was 19, fibromyalgia appeared at age 26 after having my gallbladder removed and then when my symptoms started to get worse I decided to get my own private bloods which uncovered hashimotos but as far as doctors are concerned they're going to wait until my thyroid stops functioning and then put me on levothyroxine.

I'm hoping to get some feedback on my latest blood results. The comments from medichecks were that my TPO antibodies are high again (they've went from 280 to 305 in 10 months) and my RT3/RT3 ratio suggests tissue level hypothyroidism. Do my within range results look optimal? Can reverse t3/tissue level hypothyroidism be treated without thyroid medication? I currently take zinc, vitamin d and have been eating brazil nuts for selenium. In terms of diet I know I need to be stricter and cut out gluten completely and not just avoid it most of the time.

They look perfectly 'normal' for someone not on thyroid hormone replacement. You are not hypo at the moment. :) Ignore the remark about the rT3.

Thanks. Guess it's just fibro and antibodies causing the crappy symptoms.

As I said, you're not hypo at the moment, so won't get a diagnosis on the basis of those labs. But, that's not to say that you haven't been hypo in the recent past, or won't be again in the future. You have Hashi's, which means that levels jump around, and you swing from hypo to 'hyper', through 'normal' and back again. A one-off blood test can be misleading. Keep a close eye on your levels.

Ahh that explains a lot. I'll work at reducing antibodies see if it helps. Thanks very much for your help. It's not the easiest of health conditions to get your head around.

You do have Hashimoto's, so changing to strictly gluten free diet to see if it reduces symptoms and lowers antibodies is a good plan

There may be other food intolerances, casein from cows milk and/or nightshades (tomatoes, peppers, aubergines)

The Thyroid Pharmacist website has masses of info about Hashimoto's

Low stomach acid is common

Your folate is below range. You could supplement a good vitamin B complex. Eg Igennus Super B complex

If you start taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

Your vitamin D is still too low, aim for above 70 and around 100nmol is better. Vitamin D mouth spray avoids poor gut function. Perhaps the 3000iu dose daily to increase levels, slightly less to maintain. Test twice a year until you work out what you need to keep level stable, may need more in winter than summer

Selenium, you would be better taking supplements as Brazil nuts only contain selenium if grown on selenium rich soil

Vitamin C to support your adrenals is good

Avoid all soya and consider changing to fluoride free toothpaste

Look at healing your gut

You might consider DIO2 gene test if symptoms remain after these improvements
