Gentle iron

Hi everone,Following on from my recent posts regarding iron supplements, I would like to let you know that I have doubled my iron intake in the last couple of days and it has helped my RLS . It broke through at 5am, but from 9pm until the breakthrough at 5am, I was mostly free from symptoms.

Iron tests

She booked me in for iron studies tests next Wednesday at 11.25 am and said I didn’t need to fast, but I read online I do need to. They have an appointment tomorrow at 8.15 am I can have if not. Do you need to fast before iron studies tests?

iron tests

Do you need to fast before iron tests? Would I be better waiting an extra week to have the test as I only had my ferritin tested on the 8th May?

Iron levels

I've just been looking at the Mayo Clinic algorithm of July 2021 and they suggest that for serum ferritin concentrations equal to or less than 75 μg/L , iron therapy should be started. But I think I've read posts in this forum suggesting a higher baseline should be aimed for.

Iron Levels

I have been advised that my iron levels are high and he may need to refer me back to Christies for them to look at but he wants to do another blood test in 8 weeks first to see what is happening. He kept telling me not to worry at this stage (which I wasn't), but wondered what this could be?

Ferritin iron advice please

Hello, My recent ferritin results was 21% of range, even though iron was 78%. I did neglect iron the last few weeks a bit as I ran out of my usual iron tablets. I have now Solgar's Gentle Iron 20 and iron in a liposomal form (gel) 20 mg as well. How many should I be taking to raise it?

Potential adverse effects of long-term venesection used to treat PV.

Iron overload: While iron deficiency is a common consequence of phlebotomy, in some individuals, it's possible to develop iron overload. This occurs when iron is absorbed more efficiently than it is removed from the body.

Low levels of iron good for us?

Hey, folks, been coming across articles talking about how our bad cells crave iron and in fact can cause iron deficiencies by using it up. Many supplements are iron chelators, including turmeric. Anyway, just got iron results back and they are on the very low end of normal.

Microvascular angina and iron deficiency

I started heme iron supplements 4weeks ago and I have started to feel short of breath/air hungry. I am interested to know; a)If there is a link between MVA and iron deficiency b)If breathlessness can be a side effect of starting Heme Iron

How long to stop iron supplements before iron blood test?

I’m getting my iron and ferritin levels checked. Does anyone suggest how long one should stop supplementing with iron before these blood tests? Thank you!

Iron supplement help

I have ordered the three arrows iron repair to see if I can increase ferritin. Can anyone tell me from my recent results, if one 20mg capsule a day would push my other results over the range? Or would it take a much larger amount? I also take viviscal with 14mg of iron in it. Thank you!

I'm Alive!

Additional tests to have run for iron are: - Iron Binding Capacity - Iron -Iron Saturation - Ferritin I tell all of this so that others may be aware to keep an eye on your ferritin levels, if they are trending lower over time then it is something

Iron every or ever other night?

I'm loathe to increase my iron too much, I hate the way it messes up my guts, but I'm now considering taking it every night rather than every other night.I've been taking 280mg iron fumarate with Spatone iron solution (5mg). Any thoughts?
