One has to ask how you take it, given that low FT3. Do you take it on an empty stomach, at least one hour away from food and drink, apart from water? Do you take any other medication or supplements?

Yes , I do take the morning dose on an empty stomach one-hour away from food /coffee. The afternoon dose I take it only 4hours away from the supplement

I take lots of supplements:

Selenium200mg

Omega3

vitaminD

L-glutamine

B complex

I Have started Ferrous Fumarate 305mg a few days ago as my period has come in every two weeks. and the bleeding was heavier than I usually have

My hair and skin very dry.

And the afternoon dose you take two hours after eating? And the ferrous Fumarate two hours away from everything else?

No, anytime, but 4 hours away from Ferrous fumarate and supplements

But it does still need to be two hours after or one hour before food for optimal absorption.

I will start doing it this way . I hope this would help .

What could case my FT3 to be low?

greygoose in reply todaniela15

Non-optimal absorption - possibly caused by taking it with food.

Daniela15,

How long did you leave between last dose and blood draw?

Thank you for your reply.

I left approximate 16 hours between the blood draw and the last dose

Daniela15,

If you feel well stick with your current dose but if you are still symptomatic you can increase dose. Most people taking NDT will feel well when FT3 is between 5 -6.8 which will usually mean TSH is 0.27 - 1.0 or lower.

For maximum absorption Levothyroxine should be taken with water 1 hour before, or 2 hours after, food and drink, 2 hours away from other medication and supplements, and 4 hours away from calcium, iron, vitamin D supplements, magnesium and oestrogen.

Thyroid antibodies are positive for autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's). There is no cure for Hashimoto's which causes 90% of hypothyroidism. Levothyroxine treatment is for the low thyroid levels it causes. Many people have found that 100% gluten-free diet is helpful in reducing Hashi flares, symptoms and eventually antibodies.

B12, folate, vitamin D and ferritin are good. VitD is high in range so you can reduce dose to a maintenance dose of 1,000iu daily or 5,000iu weekly.
