I was diagnosed with Hashimotos in 2011 and I now take 75mg of Thyroxine and 40mg T3 liothyrinine. I feel quite well at the moment apart from achy feet and unable to lose weight! sometimes lightheadedness and breathlessness! I have just moved to Australia and just had my first blood test here and the doctor wants me to reduce my T4, I don't want to as I feel well. Could you please take a look at the results and advise me. Thank you Also, does anybody here suffer with Sphincter of oddi dysfunction? I also have this!

I agree with you. Your T3 is not over range which is apparently what endos in UK are concerned about and your TSH is low, because T3 always suppresses it. Does your endo normally prescribe T3 or is he perhaps not familiar with it? They look like a good set of results to me. I would fight it and not decrease the dose, especially as you feel well. (In fact there is even room in your results for an increase.)

Thanks Hennerton for your reply. In australia they are not familiar with T3 and it is not usually prescribed. I saw 2 doctors and the first doctor wanted me to take just 50 mg of thyroxine every other day and said I don't need t3 and asked why I was prescribed it in the first place! then I decided to see another doctor. Would you increase thyroxine or T3?

Hi Your T4 is much too low, you need more. However, have a retest after 6 weeks on the increase levo as you may then need a little less T3. It is all balancing. At the moment FT3 is fine, but really would not be good to go any higher with the result.

Your sodium is on the high side. if you do not cook with salt, try drinking a lot more water, it van be dehydration, that should also lower your chloride too. Potassium is fine, but that is best no higher too, closely related to sodium, both electrolytes. The rest of your renal function is good, so nothing to worry about there.

Diabetes is almost borderline, that means really the diabetic diet, good for thyroid too. Autoimmune and hormonal. Have another test in 6 months, the better test is Hb1Ac

B12 too low and iron not being absorbed. you need both., iron, should be taken with a tiny bit of vit C for maximum absorption.

I may have missed it but I do not see vit D?,hormonal. True in Australia you should not need it, however, I would check. Your calcium is low enough to take some.D can cause weakness, and achy in fact quite severe if very low.

breathlessness light headiness, in this case looks like the B12 and iron/ferritin .

Best wishes,

Jackie

Thank you Jackie your reply is very helpful. I didn't have a Vitamin D blood test but next time I will ask. Would you recommend I take B12, iron and Vitamin D supplements from the chemist or do I need a prescription for them? Thanks again. Paula

You should get the vit D tested before supplementing, particularly as your calcium is a tiny bit on the high side of the range. If vit D comes back very low you might want to consider the PTH test as well (parathyroid hormone).

With that low B12 I would suggest further more sensitive testing before taking any supplements. Have a look at this page re testing, and in fact read around the website for more info on Pernicious Anaemia/B12 deficiency:

b12deficiency.info/b12-test...

Looking at your FBC my first thought was low iron (bottom of the range MCV / MCH) and although your ferritin is good your serum iron, transferrin and % saturation are low range.

yes, have your Vit D tested. This is critical. My GP was about to increase my Oroxine (thyroxine) from 50 mcg to 75 mcg but after a Perth summer with lots of sunshine, relaxation and swimming, my Vit D levels increased substantially to the point where my elevated (abnormal) liver function tests normalised and my TSH reduced to acceptable levels. I think the importance of Vit D in regulating TSH levels and Liver Function Tests is under-estimated. Good luck. Ozthyroid.

If you are taking T3 then your TSH and t4 will be low. If you are feeling well don't let anyone change things.

Thanks Hampster1, ozthyroid and eeng, I've had a busy week this week but I will definitely go back to doctors and ask for a Vitamin D test next week and just query the results everyone highlighted were low. Will let you know what happens but I'm not going to change any thyroid meds just yet!
