Below is my last lot of bloods done in July 2017. I have no idea what most of it means. I see my cholesterol is a little high which is a bit of a concern. Can someone please tell me if these all look good? I would like to be in the "optimal" range, not just the "normal" range.

I am 36. Got diagnosed with hypo 15 years ago which was caused by pregnancy. been on thyroxine ever since. Currently on 150mg daily which I've been on for about 10 years.

I beg to differ with that! Just testing TSH cannot tell you if you are converting T4 to T3 - the active hormone. And, your high cholesterol suggests you aren't. High cholesterol is a hypo symptom, it should come down as your FT3 rises. Your FT4 is quite high, so the probability is that you aren't converting it to T3 and are still hypo, despite the low TSH.

I would suggest you get your FT4 and FT3 tested privately, to see how well you're converting.

The rest looks fine. :)

Well this is from last July so hopefully it will be better next time. I was going to get a test done privately but the website doesn't recommend using the finger prick test and there simply isn't any clinic near me to get it done and I can't afford for a nurse to come out and do it.

Medichecks or Blue Horizon offer full thyroid and vitamins tested via finger prick

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven £99 often on offer at £79

Suggest you ask for old style lancets as they work better

I did look at that and it says either can ordered, but they don't recommend the finger prick test. I thought maybe because they test for 13 things and there wouldn't be enough blood? I don't really want to spend all that money if it won't be accurate from just the finger prick. Do I need the full test or can I just get my FT3 and FT4 tested as greygoose suggested?

If you have never had TPO and TG antibodies tested you need these done, plus FT3 and FT4

If antibodies are high then you have Hashimoto's.

You have had B12 and folate tested and iron

B12 and folate may need supplementing with good B complex as B12 is under 500

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

Really need vitamin D tested

Can get this via vitaminDtest.org.uk £29

Hi where does it say on medicheck that they don’t recommend the finger print test for the Ultra test? I was thinking of having it done but I’m worried now it won’t be accurate?

When you go to checkout you puck which type you want. If you click on finger prick, it says they don't recommend it

Agh I see thank you did it tell you how to get blood draw and how much that would cost ?

There's a few different prices. You can go to a clinic which I think is about £25 or youcan have a nurse come out to you which is £40. You can see it all on the website checkout before you put your card details in. I've not bought anything but couldsee it all.

Oh dear that’s not good! I’ve just checked out Blue Horizon and they’re saying the thyroid ultra test can be done with finger print test. I don’t know how well they are recommended though. Perhaps I will ask the question of the members. 😜

Yeah I looked on there but they are a bit more expensive. Let me know how you get on.

What website doesn't recommend finger-prick testing? Lots of people get it done that way.

If I could add a screenshot I would show you what I mean. On MediChecks when you go through checkout, right before you pay, this is the list at checkout:

1: How will you collect your sample?

Finger prick sample kit - FREE

Visit a partner clinic - £25

Make own arrangements - FREE

London laboratory - £25

Nurse home visit - £39

***Finger-prick sample kit not recommended***

Oh. OK. I've never done a private test, so I didn't know that. I thought it was some other site trying to put people off private testing! You never know. :)

Have you enquired at your GP surgery as to if they can do a blood draw for you privately? Mine does. I pay £10 and the nurse draws the blood using the kit and sends it off to the lab for me too.

Wow that is a lot of tests, did you have to go private for these? Others could give you more info than me. I don't have a thyroid gland however I would say that cholesterol levels are closely tied up with your thyroid gland (no matter what the doctors say)!!

ceedee81 profile image
ceedee81 in reply toPepekins

No not private. This was done by my own GP. I asked for all my vitamin levels to be checked as I had gone onto a vegan/plant based diet so wanted to make sure I wasn't deficient in anything.
