Thank you all for responses. : Just to say how... - Thyroid UK
Thank you all for responses.

This forum means such a lot to many of us Janine159. Keep posting and asking questions- we are here for you! 🦋
You might see from some of my posts I am still trying to understand both the condition and the medical process - nearly three years since diagnosis. Sometimes I feel a bit embarrassed by my reliance on this forum - but I try and overcome it! 🤣
We all understand how difficult and stressful it can be because in one way or another we've been there!
We're all here to share our experiences and what we have learned along our own thyroid journey.
It's a hugely friendly, safe and supportive group, we're here for you.
So feel free to keep asking as many questions as you have
This forum has helped me over many years....it changes lives for the better
PS
Just looked at your latest results....
Serum tsh level 1.8 mu/l (0.27-4.2)
Serum free T4 level 13.9 (12-22.0)
Serum free triodothyronine .4.2mol (3.1-6.8)
Phosphatase 15.2 out side ref range
Vitamin d 5.84
Vitam b12 395 (1.97-771.0)
Serum folate 7.0g ( 3.0-20.0 )
Ferritin 57 ug/l (13-150)
Your vit D is miserably low which will cause problems!
Your Free T3 (triodothyronine) is too low
It looks as if your T4 to T3 conversion is impaired and you may need to add a little T3
But first.... raise vit D level!
Vit D result should be at least 100
BetterYou D3000 + Vitamin D + K2 Spray 12ml is advised here....available from Amazon
Folate and ferritin are also low
Folate is recommended to be at least half way through range..
Ferritin: Optimal ferritin level for thyroid function is 90-110ug/L
Think my vit.d is ok. May have misread the decimal point. No use relaying.anything to Drs they had the test results and all ok. Acc to them. Tho lab said abnormal. Wouldmt it be lovely if Drs actually tried to sort problems adequately. Thank you for checking my results . X
You wrote....
Vitamin d 5.84.....check that decimal point because your vit D still looks too low to me, even if 58.4
If it is low it will have a sizeable impact on your thyroid function....level needs to be over 100
Drs know very little about nutrients.....and lab did say it's abnormal
Of course you are correct about underactive thyroid/ aches and pains.....show them this
thyroiduk.org/signs-and-sym...
My GP told me last week that he was unaware of many aspects of hypothyroidism! He is very open about the limitations of a GP's knowledge and the need to refer to specialists......some of them just gaslight,
They may have the test results but their ability to analyse them can be poor and that's the important bit!!
We know our body better than anyone else!!
Thank you. Today's dr visit and how strongly he denied that underactive thyroids do NOT cause body aches and pains when I know that they do. I just confirmed It by looking it up .very common underactive thyroid symptom as your metabolism isn't working properly yet here is a qualified Dr saying it Doesnt I don't go to Drs to have a argument but I was saying yes it does !!! I am suffering it so should know it's very concerning we really need to change this attitude from Drs . . How can you treat someone when know so little. Xxx I had a feedback request from reception asking how visit went and I had to be honest. Sadly.
You are not alone in this! That's the reason why most of us are looking for resources to print out to show the doctors should we experience some form of resistance from them.
My most recent doctor's visit was a young doctor who "discussed with a senior doctor and an endocrinologist" and affirmed that I was most likely overmedicated and that I should reduce my dosage to the same as a few month's ago when I was feeling increasing fatigue, cold intolerance and brain fog. At that time my TSH and T4 returned normal in the range while every other blood tests also returned normal. When I pointed out my symptoms, he suggested those symptoms could be due to mental health issues. Unfortunately, I only had 10 minutes (as do all GP appointments) and I didn't want to argue with him, as long as he's not overly pushy and reducing my prescription or being rude, I was happy to leave it.
The endocrinologist was the same person who told me a few months earlier not to break levo pills into half (and should always take it as a whole) as that could result in having uneven dosage - as if I was throwing the other half into the bin! It was a ludicrous conversation I was not prepared for as I was there for elevated prolactin levels.😂
I often wish. That Endo/Dr's should only be allowed to practice if they themselves or family members have thyroid issues. Maybe then the public would get Great Thyroid treatments that we need and Deserve.
Very true . I dread think what I put my hubby through with all the moaning and concerns I have . I just want to be myself again and walk where I want as far as I want . So far I have experience one older Dr on phone I have never seen doing my thyroid review who laughed at it affecting my walking idea then said oh usually low thyroid just makes you tired ..maddening to say the least if it wasn't for fact you have time constraints on these reviews I might have pointed out a few things . Should you have to tho . These people are in charge of our lives and withhold medication making people stay ill . I find it worrying know they can't over prescribe but basic knowledge might help .when you suffer it you become pretty knowledgeable about it all as noone else knows ..
Hi Janine since I was diagnosed over 4years ago with Hypothyroid I’ve had chronic back pain 😔 I can’t walk without pain anymore! I’ve got it 24hrs a day! I’ve been to physiotherapist, gym, pain clinic! Told to lose weight! And advised to do Tai Chi 😑 best of luck in your endeavours 💕
Thank you Doris I know my weight isn't helping but easy said than done if thyroid not functioning properly yet . I can see the battle ahead as my next review will be oh we don't want to take you too far the other way . Leave you where you are I will have to complain or demand see specialist such as they are . I am not in much pai so much as soreness all over but think that's under dosing thyroid symptoms we all seen to have to live with lots must be OK on them . Sorry you're in pain all day must be terrible . My sister has Injections in spine as she has back pain but had go private in end as so bad .it cost a thousand per shot and mri scans on top . When In pain you do anything . Hope you can get relief I just need my thyroid levels optimal then see where I am Dr's don't seem to understand the way people are suffering that's the trouble xx
We are Work In Progress.
Yea iam glad I found this forum because I think I'd still be on 25mcg of levothyroxine 2 yrs later it's totally inadequate the treatment we get from Drs on thyroid disease etc they tend to give us levothyroxine etc and leave us to it thinking it tops up the levels up and not replacing it we have to shout and quote NICE guidelines as I have done then they start to listen keep on battling lol.
Sounds good idea yes I have will those quotes ready for my next review by telephone Dr I never seen . I did have to do email saying that myself how I was being undermedicated and acc to nice guidelines I am supposed be treated until feel well then I was arranged a phone call with a more sympathetic Dr who finally agree to increase it by my reckoning I may stil need at least another increase and stil feeling rough and chilled .headaches . Sure they do think you just feel a bit tired so take pills and all sorted . It's hard tho isn't it especially when you feel so unwell if I told the Dr thar the thyroxine doesn't top it up but replaces it he would prob laugh as they do . They don't like you knowing too much . Yes it's hard .and shouldn't be xx
