methotraxate for polymialgia
I saw a Spanish rheumatologist today and on the basis that I have been on steroids for four and a half years, currently at 13.5 mgs deflazacort (pred equivalent about 9 or 10 mgs), she suggested I take Methotraxate once a week 10 mgs injected, so that I can reduce the steroid dose. it seems like a big

Adventures in decreasing prednisone
I have been decreasing pred using very slow method for about 6 months, after being on pred for 6&1/2 years at approximately 15 mg daily. Everything was going wonderfully. First time ever I had been able to reach 7 & 1/2 mg daily. Other than being a little more tired I felt good. Then one morning I

Cataract Surgery: NHS referral for fast treatment
I’m aware that cataracts are a common side effect of steroids. I’ve developed cataracts in both eyes, rapid growing and last week had surgery for replacement lens in one eye. The waiting time for NHS treatment at the hospital eye clinic is over three years. I was referred for urgent surgery under

Medications that reduce an overactive bladder
Since I've been on prednisolone my trips to the loo during the night have increased tremendously. I'm not sure if this is due to waking frequently and my body thinking that it's time for the morning loo trip but it seems that whenever I lie down for any period of time it starts up, even if I lie on

Exercise
Having just started on steroids 2 weeks ago, I have been wondering about exercise in helping recovery. Any recommendations on how much to do?What type of exercise has helped you? Do you have a daily routine?

Hello everyone. It’s been a while since I’ve asked for advice, but I find myself almost at the end of my tether… Last year I completed a course of pulmonary rehab and joined the gym and felt great for a few months. GCA relapse
I am currently having a bad GCA relapse and have put my steroids up from 3.5 to 7.5 mg. What always surprises me is that if I have a hot bath, one where I am fully immersed, I miraculously get so much better straight away. - an effect which often lasts until the morning. Does anyone else get the same

GCA and respiratory issues?
Hi everyone. I updated my profile to include my most recent flare/infection, but wanted to briefly share that info. with others who may experience respiratory issues with GCA. I had another bad "flare" that began on Feb. 4th at the end of a two week cruise. Again started with a sore throat, then respiratory

Hello Everybody, I had a DEXA scan in 2020, as far as I can see the only worrying result was the neck of femur -2.7. I have just had another DEXA scan on a different machine, and the same result was -2.9. To me, that is not a great difference, having been on steroids for 2 1/2 years. I now have been

Anyone on biologics and suffering leg ulcers
hi, so last July I injured my ankle when the spike from a tool I use on the allotment, spiked my ankle. Due to being on steroids and antiplatelets, as well as Benepali and MTX, the skin tear didn’t reattach. I now have a leg ulcer, as well as another on my shin, caused by my nail ripping my skin, when

Dr appt updates
Saw my pulmonologist on Tues. “Why haven’t you been using your Cpap?” Me: “Sometimes I feel claustrophobic and it’s hard to breathe. I also have had shortness of breath since I had Covid last June after coming home from our trip.” This led her to have me do a 6 minute walking test - my oxygen didn’t

Visit to Rheumatologist.
Today I had my 6monthly appointment with my new rheumatologist Dr. Coath at Southend Hospital (I was seeing Prof Dasgupta but he's now retired from his NHS practice) It's my second appointment with Dr. Coath and how refreshing and reassuring it was to speak to a medical professional who genuinely seems

Adrenals are working!
I had a ACTH Stimulation Test this morning and just got the results back from my Endo. She said even better than she expected. So now I can start tapering off of hydrocortisone at 1/2 tablet weekly. Currently I am on two 5mg tablets in morning and Two 5mg tablets in evening. It seems a bit fast but
