Hi I’ve been checking this site out for awhile. I am currently 200 lbs. I started at 232. I have been up and down with my weight all my life. I never was too heavy until I started battling depression. My weight got worse when I had multiple health issues and had to go on oxygen and steroids. My health is under control now for the most part. I’m exercising 6 days a week but I eat 900 calories most days. My health coach says that’s unacceptable but I don’t lose any other way. I don’t know what to do. Most of you may disagree but I’ve tried lots of diets and currently I’m doing my plate. Gov. Is it really that bad if I don’t eat 1200 calories?

Welcome back, Bobbi6
I wonder why you've gone back to calorie counting when LCHF was working well for you? Having Googled myplate.gov, it seems to be aimed at children? If you're paying for a health coach, wouldn't it make sense to listen to their advice?

adding calories seems easier to me than doing carb counting. Plus my coach says carbs are my main fuel source. My health coach offered me three diets to follow My Plate, Mediterranean, or Vegetarian which she doesn’t recommend. My plate is for adults too. It just makes you eat a variety of foods so you don’t lack any nutrients. I only disagree with her on how many calories to eat. I was losing weight at 800-900 calories but my coach said a body needs a minimum of 1200 just to live. I’m sorry you think I should just take her word for it. I ate 1200 and I gained two pounds. That why I’m questioning this.
My advice would be to read your old posts and see how positive you were then. You also questioned the advice of the coach that you had then.

wow very helpful. I really have been doing the same mistakes over and over. I need to trust the process. I’m great at exercising. I go to the gym five days a week for 2 ½ hours. I just need to stick with a plan. I have gained my weight back three times now following the different coaches plans for me. I’m going to try to trust my coach and move forward.
Have a wee look at 'fast 800' Seems to be some medical approval for this, but only I believe, if you have lots to lose and diabetes is a concern
Hi Bobbi6,
First, well done for your progress!
I know it can be hard when you are doing everything you can but still don't see the results you want to see. I used to be in your shoes some time ago. As you mentioned you were on steroids, are you still using them? Those can make you gain a lot of weight and slow down your weight loss a lot. Also, some of the antidepressants can make you gain weight, that's probably the reason you have to eat 900 kcal to lose weight. From the holistic perspective, I think you should try drinking more green juice, and green smoothies daily, which decrease inflammation and also alkalize the body. I would also recommend you trying fasted cardio (medium-intensity cardio in the morning before eating anything). Obviously, every case is different but these worked for me.
Thank you for your input. I’ve been off steroids for a few years. I take an antidepressant and an anxiety pill three times a day. I use to do morning cardio on an empty stomach until my new coach said not to ever do that. You’ve given me lots to think about. Thank you.

Welcome! I am new here this week. It's so discouraging when you step on the scales and get a gain, but the 2 lb gain you had could simply be a fluctuation due to a salty food eaten or just your body doing what bodies do (fluctuating) and not playing the scales game? Also if you are on such a small calorie allowance you will plateau I think? The only answer to avoiding a plateau is to vary the number of calories you have, to include a higher calorie day so that your body doesn't panic because it thinks it's being starved? Also I don't know your height or build which obviously comes into it. Hope that helps in some way. Enjoy your week
Hi. I do splurge one day a week. I’ve noticed that does help break stubborn fat loss. I am 5’4 , 200 lbs. I am medium build. I tend to gain weight in my belly the most but I also gain in the face etc. I’ve heard of staggering calories from day to day. I think that is a terrific idea. I’m also going to talk to my coach about low carb high fat and see what she says. Thanks for your input.
Extra virgin olive oil is supposed to be really good for you. I even use it for frying now. On the lowest heat setting from start to finish. Otherwise I found it makes the pans and hard to clean.
Are they non stick pans by any chance? When I had gallstones and had to eat a low fat diet for a while I used Rosemary Conley recipes. I bought her book "Low Fat Cooking, Step by Step' and there was a section about using and cleaning non stick pans. Soak the pans in warm water and washing up liquid for about 30 minutes then they should clean easily. I usually put mine into soak when I finish washing up then wash them separately a while later. Hope this helps.
yes I use extra virgin olive oil. I love it. Never had trouble cleaning my pans from it though.
I usually soak pans (just in water) as soon as I've finished cooking if I think they will be hard to clean. Actually the pans I'm thinking of - one was a non stick frying pan, and some were not non-stick roasting tins - but it wasn't so much that I couldn't get them clean that bothered me, it was that they were left feeling kinda sticky? Anyway, keeping the temperature low has fixed it for me
