Tired of colitis
I first was diagnosed with proctitis when I was about 20 but the doctor prescribed a sedative, believing it was stress related. After that I had about 4 or 5 flare ups over the course of the next 50 years, not having been officially diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis until 12 years ago. Mostly I tried

When to take Metformin for maximum reduction of HbA1c?
I take metformin 850mg three times daily and no other anti-diabetic medicine. I have been taking it for some time without adverse effects and now, mainly because I am on prednisone, want to achieve maximum reduction of my HbA1c. When should I take the tablets to achieve this please?

Hot weather intolerance - pmr, Pred or old age?
In a previous life - pre PMR - I was a real sun worshipper, loving every moment I could spend outside no matter how hot. Mediterranean holidays in the mid 30s were the best days of my life. I now seemed to have turned into my Mother who used to complain it was ‘far too hot’ the minute the temperature

I am a type 2 patient, but I always try to be positive about life.
"Due to family genetic problems, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2020. Coupled with some of the things I experienced at the time, I felt like the whole world was collapsing. However, as time went by, I gradually understood a lot. Living in this world, there will always be various challenges,

NHS pre diabetic programme- Second Nature
This is more on the helpful pre diabetic theme, currently running. I wonder if anyone has been offered this programme? I was called up, by my surgery, for a blood test, in Dec 23, l don’t know why, possibly my age- 88. The result showed l was pre diabetic and l was immediately offered a free 9 month

Blood Sugar Monitors
Hi - I’m nearly 10 months post Ivor Lewis and doing well. I do get dumping episodes though, and (I’m self diagnosing here!) they can include what presents as the drop in blood sugar Insulin trigger aspect (as well as all the other bits..!). Not a disaster, and sometimes self-inflicted by unwise eating

Reversal of Parkinson's versus Remission of Symptoms
On Sunday, June 9, search and rescue teams confirmed the death of Dr. Michael Mosley (British doctor), who had popularized Intermittent Fasting in 2012, and is in the news these days. Dr. Mosley had been diagnosed with diabetes and had experimented with Intermittent Fasting as a cure and having succeeded

Metformin during pregnancy
I heard this dilemma so much around metformin, whether or not to take it during pregnancy. Is someone has pcos and insulin resistance, will it be better to continue metformin after conceiving naturally? Does it have any side effects? No one gives a concrete answer to this. Advices much appreciated

I heard Hugo Rifkin interview Max Nieuwdorp about his newly published book"The Power Of Hormones"on his Times Radio Saturday review, yesterday. The author said that the future of thyroid replacement medication should lie in the method of diabetes insulin medication-ie continuous monitoring & administering

Hi everyone, not sure if you remember but I’m still getting terrible one sided temporal migraines and blurred vision but now I’ve been diagnosed with hypercholesterolemia not sure if I’ve spelt that correctly. I’ve always eaten healthy and been careful, especially with my mobility issues however I do

strange drop in PSA
I also take a statin for cholesterol and metaformin for

diabetes
. I don't want to be doubting what seems like good news, but when I saw that result I wondered if it was actually somebody else's, or maybe the lab changed the reference range (they hadn't).

colonoscopy with sedation
I am due to have a colonoscopy.... but three attempts previously were failures. This time I am to be sedated with Propofol. Which I am told is quite strong. Obviously, the consultant and his anaesthetist are are aware of my lung problems. But I am aware of just how painful the last three attempts

It Seems Like Berberine Should Be Part Of The Anti-AD Armamentarium
We have previously discussed Berberine on this forum as potentially useful against PD as well as having a multitude of other positive health effects in many various health conditions. This new study (April, 2024) suggests that Berberine may have anti-AD effects worth considering, at least in a mouse

NK cells and pcos -steroids or hydroxychloroquine?
Hi all, I’m under Prof Shehata’s NHS clinic (recurrent miscarriage )and my results showed raised NK cells although activation markers were in range. Everything else pretty good too although AMH was very high which is not necessarily a good thing and suggests that my PCOS is back (was diagnosed approx

Is carvedilol making you cold?
I recently had my Carvedilol increased to 6.25mg twice a day. Lately, I am freezing to the bone. I turn my heating up and up and am still cold when everyone else says its like a sauna. I just wondered if anyone else has this? It could also be my recent addition of diabetes medication, Sitagliptin. Never
