Test results. Can you advise please.

After great advice on this forum regarding my thyroid nodules, I requested from my GP surgery the same tests as are provided in the Blue Horizon Golden Thyroid Test. The clinician seemed to want to help and I thought almost everything would be tested.

However, these are my results and, as is clear, there are three huge absences so I haven't really had a thyroid test at all. However, there is one stand out result, my Vitamin D level. I am now on large doses to replenish this and will be re-tested in 10 weeks.

I think I need to get my Vitamin D back in range before I have the missing tests. Does that sound sensible? I believe that Vit D that low will be affecting everything. It certainly feels like it.

To my eye, everything else is sitting in the normal range but I wondered about 'ferritin'. Should I take an iron supplement?

Thank you so much for your help. It feels like a minefield.

there are actually four results missing - You haven't got a Tg antibody result, either, which is just as important as TPOab.

So, you do need something done about your vit d, but it should be your doctor doing it, he should have you on loading doses as you are very deficient. And it could take quite a while to raise it, so I wouldn't wait for that before trying to get the other tests done, if I were you.

Thank you. Yes, I have been prescribed very high doses for six weeks which I think are the loading doses you describe. Levels will then be re-tested. I imagine it is going to take some time so your thoughts on the other tests are interesting. THanks again.

What time of day was the blood drawn? Your cortisol is not great.

Just before 9am, I was offered the earliest appointment because of checking the cortisol.

If the serum cortisol level is 100–500 nanomol/L, the person should be referred to endocrinology for further investigations.

This is from the NICE guidelines for Addison’s disease, it’s unlikely you have that with your result but it’s possible that your adrenals are fatigued (note: drs are highly sceptical of adrenal fatigue!). Your reading of 269 is pretty low and could be causing some of your symptoms. If I were you I’d be pushing for further tests.

Thank you so much for sending this additional information. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to pass on my thanks. I am feeling overwhelmed and tired at the moment, in fact I only just realised what you were saying about doctors being sceptical. I had read it as drs being susceptible and wondering what a dr was!! I've had my third loading dose of Vit D today, perhaps it has helped! 🙏😳

Drs are susceptible to many things I imagine, however, treating the patient as experts when it comes to their own lived experiences seems to elude them!

I hope you get your mojo back soon x
