Supplements and blood test levels along with over 50 and iron question

I’ve searched the forum, but haven’t been able to find much regarding over age 50 and iron. I would appreciate any input. I’m 55 years old and have Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism. I have supplemented with iron and a high level multivitamin with iron for years. I have just now dropped the iron supplement on the advice of my hormone endocrinologist as she says it is inflammatory and my age indicates less of a need. Given there are warnings about iron intake over 50 regarding pooling and the hardening of organs, I decided to take a closer consideration of it.

Before seeing her, I was on Armor Thyroid, but felt like something changed. She switched me to NP Natural Tyroid 1.5 Gr (90mg) per day.

My mental alertness is where I think it should be and do not have headaches, but tinnitus has increased, and have developed planters fasciitis.

The supplements she recommends and I have started taking are turmeric, D3 5000iu, megafish oil and magnesium citrate. I continued my regimen of an ultra potency multivitamin, B-complex, B12, Selinium, NAC every other week, vitamin C, iron 325 mg FS. (I dropped Calcium, bumped up the fish oil and the D3 based on her recommendation).

Since being on this regimen, I started feeling chest tightening and a heart flutter.

I am now taking the turmeric, D3, and fish oil, along with the multi-vitamin, Selenium, Vitamin C, and NAC every other week. I’m making a huge effort to eat sardines and oysters and dark leafy greens along with vegetable and legume protein.

My chest tightening and heart flutter has significantly decreased, but I don’t have the energy I had had when on B-complex and iron.

I’m due for new labs in a month.

Labs prior to her recommendations:

Thyroid Meds:

Armor Thyroid 540mg per week (3xday for 4 days then 1xday for 3 days)

Changed to:

NP Natural Thyroid 630mg/wk (1.5 Gr (90mg)/day)

TSH .59

T3 FREE 4.8 high. Range 2.3-4.2

TPO AB Endpoint 23 high range <9 iu/ml

All CBC’s in range, but on lower end

B12 740. Range 200-1100 of/ml

Magnesium, RBC 4.7. Reference range 4.0-6.4

Vitamin D. 39

All Cardio was optimal

Liver was optimal

Any input is appreciated.

(I had been on Levo 6 years ago and natural thyroid works much better for me).

I am over 55, hypo and taking Levothyroxine, and don't take iron (I do take Vit B12 and D). I do however give blood every 4 months and clearly have enough iron in my blood to do that. I was always borderline for giving blood before the menopause, and was often rejected, but now I don't have a problem. I don't know whether that helps you to make a decision but it's my experience.
