How long should it take for a chest wound to close?
My husband was released from the hospital after spending 35 days in ICU, 28 days in a long-term acute care facility and 14 days in a rehab hospital. He had a triple bypass on May 7 and a pulmonary embolectomy caused by a reaction to heparin on May 16. He had to have a tracheostomy on June 3 to help

Creatinine of 18, but kidney function returning.
Hello all - first post here. I recently spent 3 weeks in the hospital due to surprise kidney failure. My creatinine level was at 18. I was given about 8 dialysis treatments - had a reaction to heparin, so they could not do a kidney biopsy because my platelets were low. In the meantime, my creatinine

Hair loss
For 30 years I’ve had mild hair loss due to lupus and all the drugs I take. I accepted that. When I developed severe depression, I suffered more hair loss particularly on the crown. I accepted that. When my menopause started hair loss was a feature, but as it’s common and lots of women I know have it

As I have developed another clot in my heart despite being on Apixaban for the last four years. it is now suggested a low molecular weight heparin for a month before doing a TOE has anyone had experience of this drug and any side effects as I have an intolerance to drugs in general.

Bev is back.......
Hi all, I need some real inspiration and advice from you, I have just heard I have a blood clot on my right lung and the doctor just jumped in without any professionalism, was just running off to another ward. I get heparin and oxygen, what's happening to me please?☹ Thank you for help, I know nothing

Heparin free dialysis?
Hi, I hope all is well. This week, my dear mom has started encountering blood clots in her dialysis filter. She already receives small doses of heparin to prevent clots due to being mostly immobile; however, there is a concern if they give her more heparin that could lead to some seriously bad bleeding

Feeling so scared
I just came out of hospital 2 weeks ago. I had a ''massive'' heart attack the nurse said which spooked me a bit. Because of where we live I got taken to 3 hospitals in one day. I am a retired nurse of 22 years ago and should know better but I am so scared and frightened. Usually I am in control. Had

In cell studies, seaweed extract outperforms remdesivir in blocking COVID-19 virus.
In a test of antiviral effectiveness against the virus that causes COVID-19, an extract from edible seaweeds substantially outperformed remdesivir, the current standard antiviral used to combat the disease. Heparin, a common blood thinner, and a heparin variant stripped of its anticoagulant properties

Alvin - update
I'm Alvin's wife posting under Alvin to give you an update on the roller coaster that Alvin has been through since his surgery on May 7th. I wrote this up for him as he does not remember much of what has happened to him while in ICU (6 weeks). Went in on Thursday, May 7th for surgery to his C5,6,7

Clinic letter gives some clarity
Now I’ve got the clinic letter and some details are clarified. I still need to wait for the 3 month test for formal diagnosis, but they have already tested twice about 10 days apart. Both times showed strong positives for Anticardiolipin antibodies and beta-2 glycoprotein 1 antibodies. Fortunately

New diagnosis
First post! I’ve just been diagnosed with a blood clot on my brain and possible APS (subject to 3 month test). Been started on short term heparin and long term warfarin. Feeling pretty nervous about it all. I normally lead a busy hectic life with lots of travel, including months at a time in Africa

Broken ankle update
Hi gang, I've been to the fracture clinic and all is well so far, after a scary start. The day after the urgent care clinic sent me off with a walking boot, the fracture clinic called to tell me NOT TO PUT WEIGHT ON IT and to go back to the clinic for crutches, so I did. They also gave me heparin which

My husband is slowly waking after being sedated for four weeks. He is in a long-term acute care facility. I am unable to see him because of the COVID restrictions, but did FaceTime yesterday. Dapsone and Diabetes
To prevent lung infections, I take dapsone, (allergic to
Septrin
). Does anyone with Diabetes and on Dapsone, have a problem with HBA1c test results being too low? The doctor was reducing my medication, gliclazide, because the test results were low.

Coronavirus Experience with APS
This is all anecdotal (i.e. my experience), but it may be of interest. I have primary APS (stroke, DVT, kidney clots, cerebral infarcts). INR = 3-4 + hydroxychloroquine. I got coronavirus (confirmed test result). Admitted into hospital following seizures, high temp >100, breathing difficulties, low
