Heparin free dialysis?

Hi, I hope all is well.

This week, my dear mom has started encountering blood clots in her dialysis filter. She already receives small doses of heparin to prevent clots due to being mostly immobile; however, there is a concern if they give her more heparin that could lead to some seriously bad bleeding. Does anyone have any experience with techniques used in heparin free dialysis? Or dialysis where someone cannot have any more heparin or citrates? Her nephrologist explained that since there is a clotting issue, they’re having to prematurely stop dialysis and it’s not properly filtering her blood as it should, which is a huge concern. They’re talking about possibly stopping dialysis PERMANENTLY for this reason, but surely there must be other techniques to combat clotting? What of all the people in the world who can’t have heparin at all??

Many thanks, as always 💕

The only other measures I had to reduce the chance of clotting was wearing the compression stockings whilst I was immobile, the staff in ICU also used to raise my legs when they got really swollen for periods of time from what I remember. The physios also gave me very small movement exercises which reduced chances of clotting, along with that nasty little injection in the stomach. I appreciate these don’t resolve blood clotting - they help prevent clotting - good luck in finding other measures.
