essential thrombocythemia and hip replacement surgery
Hello everyone, I'm writing on behalf of my 75 year-old mum. She was diagnosed with ET in October and is on chemo pills for it. Her platelets have come down and she's within the top of the normal range now. Mum has a bad hip and has been recommended surgery, but she's very worried about how the ET may

Reducing - again
Hello lovely people I am now 4.5 weeks post Super Path Hip replacement and doing well. 7mg Pred which I have been on for months (expecting hip op a bit sooner) Question is when would be a good time to start trying to reduce again? I am almost pain free (no meds for it anyway) - starting off the day

Linear Blaschkitis
I had PMR and have been off pred for over a year, following recovery not long after a hip replacement. On the same leg I’ve had a linear rash ( non itchy)from the ankle to the groin and my GP sent a photo of it to a dermatologist who diagnosed linear Blaschkitis - no known cause, but possibly post viral

Hip replacement operation
Can anyone please advise me on what type of clothes are comfortable to wear after a total hip replacement. I have an op in two weeks and am trying to organise what clothes I will come home in. Are dresses more comfortable/ appropriate than trousers? Not sure exactly where the wound will be situated but

Worried about recent unprotected oral sex
Hey, I'm worried about unprotected oral sex. I'm new here. Basically, I had unprotected oral sex and protected vaginal sex with a high-risk female on the 29th of April. Starting the next week, I felt nauseated, and now I have a bit of a cough. I'm getting a postal test for HIV, Gonnorhea, Clymadia,

More news on my pain
Hi everyone, Well I’ve had a very interesting conversation with my doctor. She totally agrees that rheumatologist has fobbed me off. She agrees with me they can hardly tell what it is without an X-ray and I would not have arthritis of the hip as I’ve had hip replacement . She is arranging an X-ray

PMR and keeping physically active
Does anyone else find their level of physical activity is linked to their level of PMR? Do they find activity makes it better or worse? I used to suffer from osteoarthritis - successfully treated with a hip replacement - and found it was better if I could keep the joint moving. My experience of PMR on

Da Vinci Procedure Amazing
Folks, I had the Da Vinci removal of my twenty year old irradiated prostate this past Friday. Side effects minimal so far except for pain at robot introduction site above my navel. I am familiar with long ugly scars from previous hip replacement and fractured femur and legs and I am so thankful to not

Hi everyone, I had terrible pain in my left hip and down the thigh to just above knee last week and was worried in case it was to do with my hip replacement. However on Sunday I noticed a crop of lumpy red spots on my hip which were itchy. Called the surgery Monday morning and got a call back from GP

Hello Again
Hi Gents, I was a member here for a long time and switched to the Advanced Cancer Group. The posts on that group can get very depressing. In a nutshell: I have had this disease over 16 years. I have been on Erleada + Lupron + Xgeva for 3 years now. I can’t get it up. I have been single for about a decade

Hip replacement and steroids
Have had a call from NHS referral team saying that as I have been on the NHS waiting list for hip replacement for over a year they can refer me on to a Nuffield Hospital (albeit 45 miles away) to shorten the waiting time for me. I have agreed and have to wait now to hear whether I am accepted on their
