Question: Pneumonia Vacs
I'm on shaky ground on this one, but the impression I have is that - in the USA - the standard pneumonia vac is 13-valent pneumococcal vaccine (Prevnar 13) ?? Which pneumonia vac is administered as 'standard' in the U.K. and is it as comprehensive as the USA Vac mentioned above?

Is Stage 3 CKD serious?
Hello when I was diagnosed of CKD stage 3 last year I was told that it was nothing to worry about and it was very common, I received a letter from my Dr's surgery inviting me for flu vaccine, decided to ring to find out why as I also have hypothyroidism but had never had vaccine for it. They told me

Does being on steroids entitle us to a NHS flu jab or not?
The NHS website states the following as an entitlement to a free flu jab : "a weakened immune system as the result of conditions such as HIV and AIDS, or medication such as steroid tablets or chemotherapy". However, when I asked my GP yesterday she said "The system has not flagged you up as entitled

Shingles Vaccine
When I went for my flu jab on Saturday my GP, who is knowledgeable about PMR, said that I was eligible for the Shingles jab. When I asked about having this with Pred she said that as I am on 4mg this was regarded as safe. She said that under 10mg is regarded as OK, with only a 20% risk of cantracting

Shingles vaccine or not with immunosuppressant
I have chronic sarcoidosis in the lungs and am permanently breathless if I move around. I take prednisone and mycophenalate. The mycophenalate switches off my immune system. L had a flu and pneumonia vaccines last week , but they also have me down for needing the shingles one. I thought I wasn't allowed

After the high, the low of Wk6R1 😧
Started out buoyant after last week's 20 minuter but really struggled today. Am putting it down to having a flu jab in one arm and a pneumonia one in the other earlier this morning- arms and legs feel like lead, and running at a different time of day. This has been my hardest one yet 😦😦

Itchy scratchy throat transmuted into a thick cold & has really taken the wind out of my sails. Nothing seemed to alleviate the symptoms & I was fit for very little. Having Sjogrens Syndrome doesn't help, as stuff doesn't flow.....& I would have thought with the iron supplement & the extra vitamins I

Flu vaccine
Hi! The time for catching flu is already. I am not sure if it is right for us with lymphoedema having seasonal vaccination? I asked the lymphoedema specialist what he think about this and his answer was not clear. How is in your situation? Could you please give me some advice?

Full of questions?
Do you get a flu shot? And how does it affect you and your thyroid? Also curious what everyone thinks of taking iodine supplements and selenium. And one last one, what's your thoughts on fluoride treatment from dentist? I was on Synthroid for over 30 years...never really ever felt good...but never knew

Lots of needles!!
Hi everyone, I have not been on this site for ages. Well I had my flu jab 2 weeks ago, the site remained very hot and hard for a week, a steroid injection last week. Then at the end of October blood tests in advance of having 5 days of Iloprost the first week in November, so yes lots of needles! But

Bronchiectasis
Hi Everyone, I joined the site a month or so ago and I can see that it's a good community. To be honest, I don't post that much but I thought that I would share my experience. I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis in July 2015. I had been coughing on waking and a little blood had appeared in my mucus.

Flu vaccination
I received a text today from my surgery inviting me to have the flu vaccination. I've had this vaccination each year with no problems and realise that it's safe in spite of having PMR/GCA. However, I'm due to fly to Florida later his month and wonder whether I should have this before I go or whether

Should I have a flu injection?
I am waiting for an aortic valve replacement operation. I haven't got a date yet, but it is likely to be in the new year. Apart from that I'm normally fit and well. I have never had a flu jab in the past, nor have I ever had the flu, but now I'm over 65 my doctor has offered it to me. Should I have
