Flu jab

I have another dilemma now. My family think I should have flu jab as I am now 73. I had it for the first time last year and felt under the weather for 6 months. I have found a chemist which has a jab with no mercury but don't know whether to have it or not. My Daughter is quite concerned as they are saying this years flu could be bad.

Was it the flu jab that made you unwell for 6 months last year, or did you actually have the flu?

Didn't,t have flu so assumed it was the jab

I'm 66, have never had a flu jab and don't intend to ever have one. I'm going to take high dose vitamin C (2,000 mg a day), garlic capsules, and probably a good quality Multi vit/mineral for over 50s. I honestly don't trust what is in these jabs.

I've never had the flu jab and I've never had flu. No way to know whether you wouldl have got flu without the jab. Can't prove a negative.

A multivitamin won't do you any good. Waste of money because you won't be able to absorb anything from it : low quantities of the wrong type of ingredients; things mixed together that shouldn't be mixed together; things you don't even want! Very bad idea.

Thanks GG, I didn't know multi's were that bad. I will stick to my vit C, vit D, B12 & multi B's.

I think that's best. But you could add in some zinc and magnesium. :)

I sympathise with you. I'm fine with the flu jab, but my husband had one at work many years ago which made him very ill. He always refused to have it after that. He had a pneumonia jab (which is a one off) many years later and that made him ill too.

It's your decision, not your family's.

I was in two minds about having the shingles jab when offered, but I decided that it was worth it, knowing of people who've suffered from shingles.

I had the pneumonia jab and was OK and the shingles one.

There have been some recent threads about flu jabs. Divided opinions. I don't have them despite being in two at risk categories (including lung disease).

Thanks Seaside Susie. Thought I wrote about this before. Still undecided.

I am also undecided ,refused last two years but this years flu looks like being bad.The problem is that WHO determine the strain and therefore the type of remedy and they can get it wrong so protection is limited.

I think this needs separating from the lunacy of saying all vaccinations are bad which is leading to the return of measles and could return po.io and smallpox.

Very difficult. My family worry if I don't have it.

The flu jab is made up of last years' strains as they have no idea what will be around this year. It is not tested on the over 65s and is apparently less effective in older people. Good vit D levels and very little sugar should help your immune system fight off viruses. Don't let you family bully you into something you don't want - or just tell them you've had it. And don't visit them if they have just had jabs as they will be shedding the viruses for about a week afterwards.

Didn't realise that by having jab people she'd the virus.

Recommended vaccines are a controversial topic and I think that one needs to do their own research in regard to their health issues. The CDC (USA) provides information about various vaccines and the inactive ingredients will vary by manufacturer. I don't get the flu shot as in the early 50''s I had one of the first and reacted. My understanding is the shot of the year is based on predictions of which strain(s) are expected. It may or may not provide protection as it will depend on the strain. Some of the inactive ingredients may be problematic to some. I've never had the flu and have opted to not have other recommended vaccines under Medicare for a variety of reasons. Do your own research and make an educated choice.
