My experience with DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation) Surgery
First, a little about me. I am 47 years old and was diagnosed early onset PD at 35 or so. I grew up on a farm in a small town in central FL. I played sports my whole life. Baseball, Wrestling, Softball, and even a little football. I married my high school sweetheart, have a great job, and two sons

Struggling with persistent back pain. Tips?
Hi all. I've been struggling the last few days with dreadful mid to lower back pain which isn't a typical symptom for me. I'm using my CBD oil as usual, amitriptyline, cocodamol, deep heat and hot baths but I'm still finding it difficult. I have to sit at a desk most of the day to work, but I'm finding

TSH is rising
Hello-increased my dose of levo to 125mg during lockdown after Endo said TSH fine at 0.72. but symptoms had worsened. Didn’t accept that I am a poor convertor. Just had TSH repeated by new Endo (refused to repeat T3 and T4 blood test) and despite the increase in levo my TSH has increased to just over

Should Coeliac UK be shut down?
This is a contentious question, but it needs asking. From a lot of posts on here, and personal experience, it seems that Coeliac UK are not very upfront about the fact that 'gluten free' foods carrying their mark of approval or listed on their food list are actually making/keeping people with coeliac

Please help - hypo/hashimoto's symptoms and potentially worrying blood tests, but GP not interested
Hello everyone, I have had long term symptoms suggestive of hypothyroidism and/or Hashimoto's, I think, and there is also a family history of it on my mother's side. I also had some tests 4 years ago which flagged an 'enlarged thyroid gland' but no action was suggested. Unfortunately the GP kept dismissing

Study: Deep brain stimulation may slow Parkinson's disease
OK, here is a reason to get DBS without waiting until meds don't work. https://www.upi.com/Health_News/2020/07/01/Study-Deep-brain-stimulation-may-slow-Parkinsons-disease/6891593556182/

Moving forward
This is a follow to my previous post from a few days ago regarding advice on self medicating/treating. Having now received my Medichecks results for my Thyroid Ultravit test (bloods drawn on Wed, 29th July) and spoken to my GP in a brief (and pointless) medication review by phone this morning I feel

3 Year old Gluten Free Diet?
I had a telephone consultation with the nurse on Friday about my sons Tummy problems. Bloated. Foul smelling stools. He is always telling me his tummy hurts, he wakes in the night crying about his tummy. We have kept a food diary - wheat based products do seem to be the culprit. He is also very tired

So I finished the book...
I didn't know what to expect, maybe a primer on running and PD. Lots of aphorisms similar to Just Do It and Git 'er Done. Learned that standing is more difficult than running because it uses more dopamine. And Steve Evans was the first marathon finisher to have had DBS treatment. He finished

Cholesterol and thyroid test results
Following on from my post 4 months ago - my GP agreed to raise my thyroxine dose to 100mcg and see what happened to my cholesterol. I feel a little bit better for the raised levothyroxine but still get very tired in the afternoon and evening (basically only have any energy in the morning) and still

Random question - rosacea and gluten free?
Hi - sorry for the random question, but as this site as been so helpful re- all things thyroid, I thought I would ask! I’ve just started on a gluten free diet and after only a few days my tummy is already so much happier. I also have rosacea on my nose (think Rudolph the red nose reindeer!!). Like

Rice researchers create tiny, magnetically-powered neural stimulator
It seems this could improve DBS. https://www.news-medical.net/news/20200608/Rice-researchers-create-tiny-magnetically-powered-neural-stimulator.aspx

Is there a limit on Dopaboost intake?
My dad is on a surgery waitlist for DBS here in Canada (probably next year) and we could potentially do FUS in Switzerland... But in the meantime, we have been trying to figure out the best dopamine sources to help him on the daily. Mucuna is much more effective than his Sinemet, which barely works anymore

Sand volleyball after DBS
Does anyone play sand volleyball after having DBS? My programming nurse said I should be fine to play...I had DBS in October/November 2019. I guess I'm concerned about getting hit in the battery.

That’ll teach me
On Monday I had one of my best runs ever!! And did a lovely Spine Release Pilates session that evening and felt fabulous afterwards. Slept like a log and woke with a cricked right shoulder - you know the one where it hurts right down to your shoulder blade when you turn your head? Must have slept in

Movicol not working
My 4.5 year old has suffered from constipation since she was 6 months old. She got referred to a paediatrician. We tried disimpaction with movicol in May/June 2019 - 8 sachets a day for 5 weeks. This did not work and we were told to take her to A&E by the paediatrician because he was so concerned about

Gluten or something else?
Hi, I'm new here, but not new to problems with gluten. I was diagnosed gluten intolerant about 10 years ago; my grandmother had coeliacs so I assume it is that - I declined the biopsy test. I've not had any real problems with the gluten free diet and have lived quite happily on that. Very occasionally
