Gluten or something else?

Hi, I'm new here, but not new to problems with gluten. I was diagnosed gluten intolerant about 10 years ago; my grandmother had coeliacs so I assume it is that - I declined the biopsy test. I've not had any real problems with the gluten free diet and have lived quite happily on that. Very occasionally I've had something contaminated and suffered a little.

HOWEVER, a couple of weeks ago I had what I thought was a massive bout of indigestion and have been ill on and off since then with nausea, tiredness, stomach pain, a couple of minor episodes of diarrhoea. At first I didn't twig that it could be a gluten reaction, as it had been so long since the last one. As soon as I started on my post-glutening regime, I started to feel better.

But I have relapsed again, just as I was getting back to a fairly normal diet. I seem to be back to square one with the fatigue and bloating, and I feel so depressed after being poorly for a couple of weeks.

So can anyone advise at all? Why have I relapsed? Have I got back into my normal diet too quickly? Could there be something else going on?

As your stomach issues have been going on for a while you should discuss them with your doctor. I had something very similar last year, I had an inflamed stomach lining, which required medication. Your doctor may want to rule out things like stomach ulcers too.

I agree with Cooper - talk to your doctor, just in case.

Thanks for the very prompt replies - really appreciated. Fortunately I have a doctor's appt tomorrow so I'll do as you suggest.

Have you been tested for Covid-19. Symptoms could also be that, and unlikely this is cross contamination if symptoms ongoing and you're follow gf diet.

Thanks all, I have seen the doctor and started on omeprazole to see if it's inflammation of the stomach, like Cooper27. Also there was an abnormality in one of the routine tests, so that will be followed up.

Benjamin123, it hadn't occurred to me that it could be coronavirus, as I had no fever, no cough, no sore throat, but having read around it sounds like that is how the virus has presented in some people. However, I've made some inquiries and I can't have a test without showing the typical symptoms, so it's not an option right now.
