Hypothyroid & bloodtest results

Looking for advice, any help / steers will be most gratefully received.

Health wise, I've had a rough few month’s with new symptoms creeping in that may or may not be hypothyroid related?!

My current Liothyronine dosage is 20 morning (circa 0630), 20 lunchtime (1200) and 10 early evening (1700). My feeling is that I’m under medicated..

Still under Endo consultant - I feel as though we've hit a stalemate and it’s my assumption, the consultant wants to clear me off his patient list. The blocker to this is that my GP have pushed back against his written authorisation to the GP to prescribe Liothyronine on an ongoing basis. One debating the other on policy.

My Endo journey has been across a few years now. 3 months at a time, tweak dosage, blood test... rinse and repeat. I wonder if other peoples experience of Endo consultants aligned with mine?

Back in July/Aug feeling rough, regular fatigue point mid-afternoon – Without consultation I upped my dosage back to pre-Feb/March 24 levels to 20 x3 daily. Expecting the consultant to sign off, he hit me with supposed statements I'd previously made regarding heart palpitations and sweats and insisted I dropped the dosage back down immediately. I refuted his claim over statements I’d supposedly made as I have never suffered with such symptoms across Levo or Lio! I highlighted during the consultation that I had complained of suffering from hair loss; head and outside of my lower right leg in patches along with fatigue, not as he claimed heart palpitations, etc.. Changing dosages previously whether it was up or down has always seemed to stimulate hair growth for a period. More recently, however, I’ve had hair loss on both legs, feet to thighs along with continued loss / thinning on top.

Last year I had new symptoms / conditions play out such as Vitiligo; started as small white patches during winter 23/24 and by this past summer, vast swathes of my body were affected. Since November, my skin pretty much all over my body has been insanely itchy, waking me up during the night scratching myself stupid! No bites, took antihistamines for a few weeks with no difference, no rashes or other noticeable irritations but I do seem to get what appears to be raised water spots that once popped weep and sting for a period had them reoccurring on my hands for many years but never anywhere else up to now, also have some hives appearing. Upon itching, even lightly, I seems to generate blood spots under the skin. Numerous visits to GP have been fruitless and packed off with a different steroid based cream each time, skin scrapings sent away for testing returned nothing found!

After googling I found references to itchy skin and Hypothyroid and the advice as stated was to seek a dermatology referral. The moment I mentioned Hypothyroid at the GP and that I was still under the consultant, the GP deferred any treatment related under a 'thyroid banner' to the Endo consultant... Consultants team refer all routine care, as they believe this to be, to GP.. pass the parcel??

I managed to get the consultant on the phone last week, after a brief explanation of current symptoms (itchy skin (new symptom for the last 2 months), muscle fatigue / cramp / pins and needles, hair loss to both legs and head, tiredness. Sinus to ear blockage reminiscent of pre-hypothyroid diagnosis when after I started medicating with Levo the symptom eased almost overnight. Body weight increased to same level I was at the same dosage prior to increasing to 20x3 daily). The consultant stated my blood test results are 'perfect'! Then placed a caveat on low TSH and low folic acid (a first for me) whilst suggesting the weight loss I experienced before was likely as result of over dosing??

Having lived experience of how my body reacts to different dosage levels, I felt better on the higher but have pushed to go above 20x3 daily to gauge how my body reacts to it. I still feel massively improved on where I was on Levothyroxine, Vit D & B12 deficiencies have also appeared to elevate on Liothyronine. I'm still striving to find my feel good / sweet spot / nirvana, though as time goes on, I do wonder if this is as good as its going to get?

My workout schedule normally sits around 3 to 4 sessions in the gym, per week. Weights and Cardio. I have not been in the gym properly due to feeling run down and between flu etc for about a 6 weeks.. my weight remains the same. With Christmas thrown in, I'd have thought with extra naughty bits, drink and virtually no exercise my weight would climb but it hasn't... Is it diet? is it more intolerance to certain foods?? Previously confirmed as not coeliac.

Am currently researching PK diet with a view to giving this a go, noting this a complete lifestyle change anyone here using this or any other diet?

For awareness of others that might not know.. I had been taking a protein shake midday to supplement gym sessions for a couple of years, only to recently find out that it contained Biotin! Possibly tainting tests prior to October last year.

Would appreciate some insight from you helpful, awesome people here on the skin issue and possible link to Hypothyroid – anyone with similar experience? Opinions on blood test result and any other advice?

just picking up on this bit Hoopy, "but I do seem to get what appears to be raised water spots that once popped weep and sting for a period had them reoccurring on my hands for many years but never anywhere else up to now"

if intensely itchy before they come up and pop, and if they were mainly on palms / sides of fingers, then that sounds like a condition called Pompholyx (dyshidrotic eczema) ~ affects hands and/ or feet.

i had it on and off for many yrs , disappeared a couple of yrs ago and hasn't come back since , (no obvious reason , just went).

Hi there,

Was there a reason you stopped Levo and went to Lio only? Just wondering if your body is struggling with low FT4 🤷🏽‍♀️

I do the P of PK but not the K, K is fine short term but awful for mental health long term. I’m low carb but not no carb, I eat pears and veg and potatoes and occasionally brown rice or buckwheat or quinoa. Also training 3-4x a week and stronger than I’ve been in years.
