Blood test results

I have Hashi's and am on 75mg Levo daily as well as gluten and dairy free diet and using supplements (Vit C, CoQ10, Iron and Vit B12 after lunch and Vit D + K2 Magnesium citrate and selenium at bedtime) and would value your opinion on my latest blood test results which were taken as advised: early morning, 24 hrs from last Levo dose. Looks like poor conversion to FT3:

TSH 1.88 (0.27-4.20) Too high! Aim is to be 0.2-/1

FT4 18.8 (12-22) Too low! Aim is to be at top of range

FT3 3.9 (3.10-6.80) Way too low! Aim is for 60% through the range

Vit D 92 Okay: aim is to be over 80

Folate 14.6 (2.50-19.50) Okay -aim is to be at least half way through the range

Ferritin 118 ((30-470) A bit low- aim is to be at least half way through range

Serum vitamin B12 770 (180-900) Okay -aim is to be over 500

Plasma Viscosity 1.79 (1.50-1.72) Too High!

Red Blood cell count 3.76 (3.80-5.30) Too low!

I've now found the Calculator which shows FT4 is 68% through range and FT3 is 21.62% through the range. I weigh around 60kg, wondering if I need an increase in Levo to see if FT3 increases?

Was test done as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Do you always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription

Which brand?

Guidelines on dose levothyroxine by weight is approx 1.6mcg per kilo

That’s 60 kilo x 1.6mcg = 96mcg per day

96mcg x 7 days = 672mcg per week

So you might need 6 x 100mcg and 1 x 75mcg

If Ft3 remains low likely to need addition of T3 prescribed alongside levothyroxine

Email Thyroid UK for list of recommend thyroid specialist endocrinologists who will prescribe T3 ...NHS and Private

Thank you for the advice SlowDragon, that’s really helpful.

Test was done early morning, 24 hours from last Levo dose without eating or drinking anything other than water.

I always take 25mg x3 of Mercury Pharma brand Levo early morning and leave at least an hour before drinking or eating anything other than water. (I used to have 25mg MP and 50mg tablet of Activas, but found MP brand suited me better and have been on this dosage with gf and df diet for around 3 years).

I have the list of Endo’s from Thyroid UK thanks and have a suitable one fairly near to me.

I will ask my GP for increase due to my low FT3 and weight ratio, if no joy will see private Endocrinologist.

Mercury Pharma make 25mcg, 50mcg and 100mcg tablets

You may find you can tolerate slightly higher dose levothyroxine, but not everyone can tolerate higher dose

FT4 18.8 (12-22) Too low! Aim is to be at top of range

Who told you it should be at the top of the range? If you do get it to the top of the range, it will probably start converting to more rT3 than T3, so your poor conversion will become even worse. You want it around 70 to 80% through the range, but I doubt that will help your FT3 very much. You are a very poor converter.

Your t4 is possibly ok but you could do with T3 to bring that level up.

Hi Workingitout, I'm probably too late with my comments for you and I'm sorry about that. I don't know if you take magnesium for cramp or in order to achieve optimum levels of vitamins and minerals. For me magnesium was life changing in solving the misery of cramp. Over the years I'd been to the GP several times about cramp and got nothing back. It was this forum that solved the problem which was really bad. At my worst I had twice been immobilised with both legs completely locked in cramp for 5 and 6 minutes. Anyway to get to the point I take 2 tablets magnesium citrate giving me 400mg per day after lunch in order to have a trouble free evening and night. If I get twinges while watching tv in the evenings I know I have missed my dose! Occasionally I also need to rub my legs with magnesium oil to feel confident of a quiet night.

Since learning about vitamins etc here and getting myself tested I have improved the way I feel by correcting very low vitamin D and taking Igennus super B-complex. I use Solgar (plant based) for D3 and K2 as well as Mag Citrate.

I can't imagine what my life would be like if I hadn't found this site because it was not only cramp that was the problem but I was also losing my marbles and am currently functioning pretty well.

Good luck.

Hi, thanks for your message. I agree: l take magnesium citrate at bedtime in powder form dissolved in water and find it helps reduce brain fog. Not taking it for cramps.
