So, when were you put on carbimazole? Because none of those results suggest you are hyper. Your Frees are pretty low. So, it doesn't appear as if you have a 'hot' nodule making hormone. And there are no antibody results there.

Do you know what size your nodules are? Do they obstruct your breathing or swallowing? I think your doctors need to do some talking! How can you make an informed decision about the op if you don't have any of the facts?

Hi greygoose, I have been on carbimazole since I was first diagnosed..about 3yrs ago. I dont have any problems breathing or swallowing but I do cough alot. I have had a chest xray which was clear. I dont smoke but have a persistent irritation in my throat. Wonder if that has anything to do with the nodules.

I'm feeling nervous about the consultation with the surgeon because the endo was quite emphatic that she would not put a request in for me unless I was serious about having the OP. I understand that , the NHS is so stretched and I dont want to waste anyones time. I didn't ask for this consultation but felt at the time it may be worth discussing the pros and cons. Now I just wish it wasn't happening as I am feeling really stressed. The fight or flight feeling is just there most of the day and I cant relax.

Oh well it will soon be over. Thank you for your help.

Still, I don't think you should be threatened in that manner.

They do not have to live with the consequences of the op. You do

Still, it's only a half TT. And not the whole thyroid out.

And surgery's one of the ways for treating problematic thyroid nodules.

Just be sure carbimazole therapy is no longer as helpful or helping with your symptoms. This might help with your decision.

Well, I still think you need more information about your present condition before you can make a decision.

a) why do they think you are hyper when your bloods were never hyper? (Hyper is when your TSH is unreadable and your FT4 is about 60/70.)

b) why do they say you don't have Grave's if they've never tested any antibodies?

c) why are you being treated with carbi if you don't have Grave's and you've never been hyper?

d) what exactly is the problem with the nodules? Are they too large? Are they 'hot' (producing hormone independant of the thyroid)?

e) if there's no problem with the nodules, and you don't have Grave's, why do they think you should have a TT?

You need clear-cut and precise answers to those questions before you can even start to decide if you want this op.
