Feeling very tired and rundown, latest blood test results

I am active senior who has hashimoto for a few years, hypothyroidism for many years, was on synthroid for many years, on Armour thyroid for a few years.

Here are my blood test results, dr put me on once a week 50,000 iu of Vitamin D, little anemic.

Iron total 124 range - 45-160mcg

Ferritin 32. Range - 16-288 ng

T-shirt 4.04. Range - 0.40-4.50

T4 free 0.6 L. Range - 0.8-1.8ng

Cholesterols total 207 H Range <200 mg

LDL cholesterols 127 H Range mg/dL

Non Hdl cholesterols 153H Range <130 mg

Sodium 134 L Range 135-146

Hemoglobins 11.3 L Range 11.7-15.5

Hematocrit 33.5 L. Range 35-45.0%

Platlet count 419 H Range 140-400 Thousand

Vitamin D 27 L Range-30-100 ng

I have been trying to post these results for SeasideSusie to review.

I feel exhausted, low energy, Weight gain, bloated and have Alopecia aretera.

Have ordered mega food blood booster and started taking vitamin and 50,000 iu a week to see if this helps.

My endo says results area within range so continue on Armour thyroid 30 mg as I have been for a few years. Any answers to the puzzle? Any one else feel low energy with their hoshimoto?

Your results aren't exactly in range. Your TSH is at the high end of the range but your FT4 is below range.

Does your endo actually know how to interpret test results when on Armour?

When taking NDT it tends to lower, even suppress TSH and often FT4 is low in range. However, the most important test is FT3 because of the T3 element in NDT. Your endo hasn't tested FT3.

Your TSH and below range FT4 show that you are undermedicated and that you need a dose increase. Most people on NDT are on at least 2 grains, you are on half a grain. Your dose should be increased by 1/2 a grain every 3 weeks (if further increases are necessary) until you reach 2 grains then any further increases should be 1/4 of a grain at a time.

When doing thyroid tests we advice:

* Book the first appointment of the morning, or with private tests at home no later than 9am. This is because TSH is highest early morning and lowers throughout the day. If we are looking for a diagnosis of hypothyroidism, or looking for an increase in dose or to avoid a reduction then we need TSH to be as high as possible.

* Fast overnight - have your evening meal/supper as normal the night before but delay breakfast on the day of the test and drink water only until after the blood draw. Eating may lower TSH, caffeine containing drinks affect TSH.

* If taking thyroid hormone replacement, last dose of Levo should be 24 hours before blood draw, if taking NDT or T3 then last dose should be 8-12 hours before blood draw. Adjust timing the day before if necessary. This avoids measuring hormone levels at their peak after ingestion of hormone replacement. Take your thyroid meds after the blood draw. Taking your dose too close to the blood draw will give false high results, leaving any longer gap will give false low results.

* If you take Biotin or a B Complex containing Biotin (B7), leave this off for 7 days before any blood test. This is because if Biotin is used in the testing procedure it can give false results. These are patient to patient tips which we don't discuss with doctors or phlebotomists.

It might be time to find a new endo, one that understands how to treat a patient on NDT and understand the test restults.

Your cholesterol is high because you are undermedicated, high cholesterol is a symptom of hypothyroidism.

Your sodium is below range and should be discussed with your doctor.

Iron total 124 range - 45-160mcg

Ferritin 32. Range - 16-288 ng

Although your serum iron is quite high in range, your ferritin is very low in range and it's recommended that ferritin is half way through range. Ferritin is your iron store, so your body is taking iron out of the iron store but it's not being replenished. I would discuss with your doctor to ensure that your blood builder supplement is the correct thing to take.

Hemoglobins 11.3 L Range 11.7-15.5

Hematocrit 33.5 L. Range 35-45.0%

Both are below range and can suggest anaemia.

Platlet count 419 H Range 140-400 Thousand

You should discuss this with your doctor.

Vitamin D 27 L Range-30-100 ng

Your doctor was right to put you on loading doses of D3. When these have finished you should be retested as your dose will need to be changed and the new dose based on the new level.

The Vit D Council recommends a level of 50ng/ml and the Vit D Society recommends a level of 40-60ng/ml. Once you have reached this level then you'll need a maintenance dose to keep it there, which may be 2000iu daily, maybe more or less, maybe less in summer than winter, it's trial and error so it's recommended to retest once or twice a year to keep within the recommended range.

Doctors don't know, because they're not taught much about nutrients, but there are important cofactors needed when taking D3 as recommended by the Vit D Council

D3 aids absorption of calcium from food and K2-MK7 directs the calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissues where it can be deposited and cause problems such as hardening of the arteries, kidney stones, etc.

D3 and K2 are fat soluble so should be taken with the fattiest meal of the day, D3 four hours away from thyroid meds if taking tablets/capsules/softgels, no necessity if using an oral spray.

Magnesium helps D3 to work. We need Magnesium so that the body utilises D3, it's required to convert Vit D into it's active form. So it's important we ensure we take magnesium when supplementing with D3.

Magnesium comes in different forms, check to see which would suit you best and as it's calming it's best taken in the evening, four hours away from thyroid meds if taking tablets/capsules, no necessity if using topical forms of magnesium.

Do you have results for B12 and folate - both are needed as they work together.

B12 697 range-200-1100

Folate, serum 23.8 range -normal >5.4, low <3.4, border line 3.4-5.4.

My endo always tests my levels after lunch, I take Armour at 7:30 am , he tests after lunch say 2 pm.

This time was a exception as I went fasting.

As I have been feeling extremely tired after taking one pill of Vitamin D, dr asked me to stop Vitamin D to see if I feel better, get D from food he says, ok to take the blood booster that I just ordered. Dr has not told me how to resolve the issue, I run a Tai chi class and walk daily, good for a 75 year old!

Dr had me on Vitron c but it was too strong for me, got hard stools and heartburn so had to stop that.

What should I ask my endo, to check my blood test in tha am?

I hope I resolve my weight gain and tired issue soon.

I forgot to mention I gave up eating meat a few years ago may be 6 years, I still eat fish and eggs. Drs here wants me to start eating meat again! I was taking megnasium and zinc before going to bed, stopped it, thought I was taking too many vitamins. Should I start k 3 and magnesium along with D3?

Dr will do respect blood test in 3 months

You need K2 and magnesium as important cofactors of D3 as mentioned above.

I used to be demi-vegetarian and chicken was the only meat I ate, plus fish. I couldn't tolerate iron tablets and started eating liver which did a good job of raising my Ferritin over time. It's a personal choice.

Advice for best way to do thyroid tests in my previous reply.

I don't know how you can get the equivalent of D3 loading doses from food considering that the highest amount is in cooked salmon and 3.5 ounces contains 360iu D3.

Your B12 and Folate are currently at pretty good levels.
