Please could anyone advise what I need to take. I also take a B complex, have B12 injections since September 2017, vitamin D (1000iu oral spray) since 2015 and vitamin C (1000mg) for adrenals. I started the vitamin C this morning, the vit D since September last year. Also iron deficient and eating gluten for coeliac blood test.

Thanks!

Vitamins tested 25 April 2018

Ferritin 28 (15 - 150)

Folate 2.4 (2.5 - 19.5)

Vitamin D 59.9

Vitamin B12 225 (190 - 900)

Selenium 0.94 (0.89 - 1.65)

It's clear you have poor nutrient absorption, these are all too low

Your B12 is still low despite injections. Request you have them more frequently

What vitamin B complex are you taking? Does it contain folate, not folic acid?

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

Vitamin D is too low. Dose needs increasing. Aiming to improve to around 100nmol. Vitamin D mouth spray is good as avoids poor gut function. Suggest you try 3000iu for 2-3 months and retest. It's trial and error what dose each person needs. Once you Improve level will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there. Retesting twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk

Ferritin is also too low. Eating liver or liver pate once a week should help improve.

Hashimoto's affects the gut and leads to low stomach acid and then low vitamin levels. Low vitamin levels affect Thyroid hormone working

Poor gut function can lead leaky gut (literally holes in gut wall) this can cause food intolerances. Most common by far is gluten.

According to Izabella Wentz the Thyroid Pharmacist approx 5% with Hashimoto's are coeliac, but over 80% find gluten free diet helps significantly. Either due to direct gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)

Changing to a strictly gluten free diet, regardless of negative coeliac test result, may help reduce symptoms, help gut heal and slowly lower TPO antibodies

Persistent low vitamins with supplements suggests coeliac disease or gluten intolerance.

Low stomach acid can often be an issue with Hashimoto's
