The doctor prescribed a course of
steroids
, Prednisolone , they took a bit of time to resolve the gout but the impact on my energy levels was awesome. I almost felt normal. I asked for a course of
steroids
on a more permanent basis and was refused.

Travel
Morning all, hope you can help me , I'm travelling to Kenya in November I've just seen on the government website that if your taking
steroids
ie prednisolone you maynot be able to have the yellow fever vaccination. Is this correct has anyone travelled to Kenya with this issue.

Steroid tapering
I was diagnosed with PMR January 2023 my initial response to
steroids
was like a miricle...My journey has been very rocky with trying to reduce
steroids
and 7 mg seems to be my sticking point.

Prednisolone Update & Questions
Pre the
steroids
on Monday morning, I think I had my worst day ever.....pure agony, arms like twigs, shoulders searingly painful....which brought me to tears. Started the course that morning and wake now after a good 6/7 hours with minimal shoulder pain and stiffness.

Alternate day prednisolone.
I was keen to take less
steroids
so I have reduced my prednisolone by 0.5mg/day on alternate days, reducing every 3 weeks. So 4/3.5 then 4/3.0 and so on to 4mg alternate days and nil on the other days. Obviously this has taken some time.

getting a diagnosis
A course of oral
steroids
sorted him out for a good while. He is now 23 and a professional singer, classically trained but suffers with reflux, persistent cough, and gets every virus on his chest. Recently he couldn’t shake off a chesty cold and ended up in an and e with low oxygen and wheezing.

Father with Stage 4 prostate cancer in 8 bones.
This is the reason he has tried to avoid
steroids
, but I have explained to him that we will need to take
steroids
on the next medication because the alternative is dying (which he is not ready to do yet.)

Update.
The
steroids
I am on has have improved my haemoglobin and I am reducing the dosage over 4 weeks. I am to stay on folic acid tablets for the mean time. The letter I received states that my haematologist cannot say whether or when the Rituximab I received will kick in.

Actemra and aches and pains!
I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience of dropping on the
steroids
and then aches and pains setting in? If so did they ride it out successfully or go back up on prednisolone?

I was advised my gp to increase my
steroids
from 5mg to 8mg in August due to increased inflammation markers. I had my bloods taken again after two weeks on 8mg and inflammation markers normal.

learning to live with GCA/PMR
I was diagnosed with GCA and PMR in late August this year and am just about starting to feel more like myself now that the symptoms are being controlled with
steroids
. So I'm starting to find out more about my condition and how others have coped with it.
