What do people mean when they say….
Diet
This phrase is a bit ambiguous: it can mean way of eating, see below, or it can mean a temporary weight loss plan that you only do for a short amount of time, before returning to your previous diet. See? It's confusing!
WOE/Way of eating

Buddha bowl fruit salad
So it's not particularly low-carb, but I just fancied some refreshing fruit this evening. It consists of apple, small apricot, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries plus a dollop of peanut butter scattered with toasted seeds. I eat it with that tiny dessert fork (pretentious? moi?) as it seems to make

Asthma with GERD
I still face control problems with my asthma and find it increasingly frustrating to get my various doctors to explain or commit to an answer so I rely on places like this for help. People who experience it in my view are actually a better source often. Here is my question. Yes, I have asthma. I take

LCHF mythbusting : part II
Another in my ongoing series of rants!
LCHF only works because it reduces your calories.
This one drives me crazy. It's usually preceded by a grudging acknowledgement that "LCHF works, but ..." and concluded with "... so any calorie-controlled diet would work as well". To which the obvious response

Insulin and Prostate.
This is a VERY interesting video to gentlemen of a certain age concerning enlarging of the prostate. Previous to watching this my take was a shrug of the shoulders in that it's 'something that comes to men with age. I'd gone as far as I could in researching the condition and came up against 'testosterone

How To Use Peak Flow Meter
Hi. Im not asking how to use the PFM, but rather asking do you take a puff first and then breathe? Or do you do it without a puff? Also, I know its a personal thing, but what roughly is a decent number for peak flow? Thanks so much. Learning so much on these boards about this condition...I had it when

Qvar and peak flow
I'm 12 weeks post-viral and have not been diagnosed with asthma. I (still) have breathlessness and itchy chest. I was given salbutamol 8 weeks ago and a trial of Qvar 4 weeks ago. I had an off-the-record chat with the respiratory nurse at the GP's where I work (not where I'm registered) last week. She

LDN causing Dystonia or neck jerking?
A neurologist recently thought that I had a motor tic in the back of my neck that keeps me jerking my head forward. After readingn some research I think maybe I have some form of dystonia. I seem to jerk it very hard to the point in the middle of the day it's just hurting and I do it every day. Anyways

My Swedish supper
This is probably the tastiest beige plate I have eaten since I went low carb. Swedish meatballs in a rich sauce; sautéed cabbage and leeks;celeriac home fries; redcurrant & blackcurrant sauce. 😋 (plating my food for photography increases my pleasure, so I have to share the photos with someone. sorry

Fasting and visceral fat (or at least waist size)
I started fasting via Michael Mosley's Fast800. So low calorie (I was between 800-1000 kcal/day), low carb, IF. In the first month I lost 7.4kg, and 10cm off my waist. https://healthunlocked.com/fasting-and-furious/posts/142414943/1st-month-fasting-lchf Then I joined HU, took advice from various people

Post Covid Asthma won't settle
Hi, this is going to be a long one. I came down with suspected Covid at the end of March. Previous to this my asthma was well controlled on fostair 4 x 100/6, ventolin as needed (once a month or less), dymista and cetirazine. I've been on this lot for about 7 years with the occasional issue after respiratory

LCHF Mythbusting
As some of you might know, I'm the HU "Ambassador" for the LCHF group. It's a bit of a thankless task because the internet is still awash with misinformation about LCHF. Prompted partly by a few recent conversations, I figured it'd be worth doing an occasional series of MythBuster posts. I'll do two

Asthma or not???
I have been so appreciative of help from you all. My dilemma now is am I a true asthmatic or victim of allergy. I have had side effects from Fostair and Budesomide . Last night I stayed off my inhaler to test my reaction. This morning my peak flow was usual 550 and SP02 97. Am I being foolish to wonder

Peak Flow Advice?
Hi peeps Just wondering how important it is to keep track of your peak flow? I check it when my chest is tight and I’m struggling but apart from that I don’t really bother... Is it worth checking it regularly? I tend not to really worry about these things as I don’t feel things are that bad... but
