ALK lung cancer: First sign of progression?
Hi. My brother has lung cancer and I wrote about it in the post below. He has taken Alectinib for few months and the results has been great so far. However he just received result from his latest Xray and the comment the doctor wrote online was that he can see "some slightly prominent lymph nodes in

The Constitution of Medical Knowledge (Part 1 of 3)
Patients are often confused by seemingly conflicting findings of studies, or equally good doctors recommending different treatment plans. How are we to decide? Medical science is a process created by a “reality-based community” to help decide such questions. Science isn’t just hypothesis-testing with

Please have blood tests if taking medication - Pentasa.
My GP prescribed me Pentasa for my Ulcerative Colitis. I took this for approx 10 years. My GP never requested any blood tests in this time. This medication was slowly killing off my kidney function. In 2017 I was admitted to hospital with a 9% kidney function. I stopped Pentasa and my kidneys improved

ET accelerated progression
hi. I have had ET since 2004, treated with varying doses of HU and in later years also Peg. Apart from unstable platelets I have been relatively symptom free. Until this year! I have definitely struggled with HU, getting terrible mouth sores. I had a bone marrow biopsy recently which has confirmed

Gallbladder issues
I was just curious to see how many members had issues with their gallbladder? I know of two friends who have had kidney transplants and they both had their gallbladder removed previously. I myself had my gallbladder removed the same year I was diagnosed with kidney disease. I suffered with gallbladder

Follow up on my liver cancer HCC
Hi all, I have been on the craziest rollercoaster ride since January 2022. Had resection May 28, 2021. My cancer came back 8 months after surgery. Was referred to have a liver transplant evaluation. My case looked very promising to get a liver. Had to do a lot of prep including testing and interviews

Non driving gene mutation-ASXL1
I have MF with JAK2 V617F for 10 years, now is taking Ruxotinib and Interferon . Spleen contraction and blood control are good. Although I took a lot of hormones, at least my fibrosis degree has been reversed, and the mutation rate has also decreased a lot. But I was found I have a new bad prognosis

Should I ask for a new assessment
I was diagnosed with terminal squamous cell lung cancer last October. My upper left lung had collapsed with a 10cm tumour and the tumour was blocking the lower lobe and caused it to overinflate. I had two sessions of palliative radiotherapy, one week apart, in Nov 21 to help keep the lower lobe functional
