I've just been to Bristol stem cell department in preparation for a possible Stem cell transplant. I had to have 14 phials of blood taken for tests. Is this a record at one sitting? !!

Wow, that's a lot but you're in good company, a couple of weeks ago I had 16, part of those for the clinical trial and part for local hospital records and some for transfusion. I feel for you.

Think I had the same for my first check. In Tonny Hancock parlance that’s a whole armful.

not boasting but I had 16 phials but after she took the needle out she apologised and said she needed to take another sample lol.

nope I had twenty at one time in 2004, prior to my MPN diagnosis. the hospital knew something was amiss and were trying everything to find out! Even the nurse taking the samples couldn’t believe it and had to keep checking her book to see what coloured lid was required for what test, incidentally I didn’t get diagnosed with an MPN until 2007… bruddery

Hope they can find you a match.

My husband had prep work done three years ago they took plenty of blood .

His sister's weren't a match but they came back with 9 10/10 matches on the dkms website we were amazed.

My husband isn't having a stem cell transplant he's doing well on ruxolitnib.

If he needs a transplant in the future at least we have some hope of a donor .

Good luck

Tracey

Did you watch the SCT webinar on Tuesday? It was excellent and a great introduction to you challenge. One of my buddies had her SCT in Bristol and was very happy there.

Now eight years out she did a patient presentation at one of the MPNVoice patient days. 😀

Good luck with your treatment.

That is a lot. I’m having tests at the moment for a possible transplant.

Sending best wishes.

I’ve had many blood draws in the past year. Usually 12-14 vials. Sometimes more. They are checking my levels of medications, for infections, bacteria and how my body is reacting to my bmt. I was diagnosed with AML in October of 2021

Scaredy-cat, you have a good humor. I’ve had 16. My daughter 18 with salmonella (3 were huge!) I think the record has my hubby. Cancer 2 years after our wedding. They took 13 phials, then a few hours later, after testing, they realised that it wasn’t his blood. There was another man, 30 years older, with the same rare name, on the same hospital floor! They took 13 again. So….26 phials!! 🙄 he was also one you would faint at every sight of a needle. In the meantime, he had to get over that phobia. 😉 that was 2001 and he is thank God, very well.

I wasn't too good having blood taken in the past and the idea of being a blood donor was too scary to contemplate. Now it would be fine but I don't suppose they want it now!

😂

my 93 yr old mother-in-law didn’t have enough thrombocytes and I wanted to giver her mine. I thought: Win-Win. 😉

The doctors didn’t allow that. They said that there are a lot of them, but they are not good. Also, I have a genetic anemia, typical of the Mediterranean cultures.

Be well! Anag
