Fibroscan referrals
My wife and I took advantage of a Fibroscan Roadshow this week. Mine was normal but wife has reading of 12.2 kPa and an 1QR 47. The clinician who took my wife’s reading had a great deal of difficulty in getting the right position to get a reading from her liver. It took over 10 minutes! The results

Fibroscan vs CT scan for cirrhosis diagnostics
I will ask this question to my consultant but since I won't see him in the next 2 months, I'll go ahead and ask here in case anyone knows. As I understand, Fibroscan can correctly show the fibrosis reading of, let's say 6.5 kPa, but CT scan can still detect liver nodularity and scarring which corresponds

Experimental treatment for PD
Does anyone know anything about the clinical trials going on in the UK with Ambroxol as a treatment for PD (a repurposed cough medicine)? The preliminary results look good, but I can't find anything after 2021.

My son had a sucessfull heart transplant in March 2022, he's 48 and doing very well. Do you know anyone who has had a heart transplant and how they're getting on? 💖

Cirrhosis!
silly question but I was wondering if anyone ever was told that they have cirrhosis and one day it all got cleared? Is it possible for the liver to heal once it has cirrhosis and if anyone has the experience of this then please share the treatment or life style changes you may have adopted. Many thanks

Post Transplant Issues
I had a kidney transplant on 2/11/21 and at the same time I was diagnosed with Parkinsons. Is there anyone out there who is on both anti-rejection drugs and carbidopa/levodopa. I have been struggling to feel better for 17+ months. I get so agitated and my quality of life just isn’t there.

imuran
I have been on Imuran 50mg for over 3 years and will be on it another 2 for autoimmune hepatitis. I also have PBC and take ursodiol for that. Imuran has lowered my liver levels and has kept them stable for me. It suppresses your immune system but it’s manageable. My dr is hoping that after being on it

Recent deterioration
I have an autoimmune liver disease called Nodular Regenerative Hyperplasia. This is caused by a primary immune condition called Common Variable Immune Deficiency. I have deteriorated slowly over 10 years and the phrase “ advanced liver disease” was used for the first time in September. A few weeks

Worried: The word 'Cirrhotic'
Delighted I found this forum. Ive had high ferritin for a number of years (450 or so). Various tests done, not haemoochromitosis. Suspected NAFLD. I had an Ultrasound done in may this year, followed by an MRI. Was told result of Ultrasound was very fatty concentration in one corner of liver and then

imuran /Azathioprine
i’ve been started on Imuran/Azathioprine, for arthritis. I will have to be monitored closely, with labs due to my PBC. I was wondering if anyone else had their liver enzymes(inflammation), Get better while on this medication? My hepatologist, and Rheumatologist . Both agree, that if monitored closely

Can ultrasound detect cirrhosis?
hi all I’ve had a clear ultrasound but I have high high serum ferritin. GP referring me for a fibroscan and I’m really worried I might have cirrhosis. Anyone know how good ultrasound is at detecting cirrhosis??? Ive been drinking at least a bottle of wine daily for about 6 years with very few days off

Rapamycin
I have friends using low doses of this drug and I have an appointment with a doctor that prescribes it. When I asked my Hematologist at Mayo about it they said this drug may be get approved sooner than later for MPN’s. Has anyone researched this or used it. It is a drug used for organ transplants but

https://www.pdsa.org/products-a-publications/e-news/2018-enews/item/1613-pdsa-enews-032818.html Rapamycin is being tested as a longevity drug.. It is not "approved" as an IPT drug, but it is available by prescription. I have heard of people ordering it from off shore sources. It is a generic drug

Kidney Transplant
😊On Friday, I received a call call from my transplant nurse that I was identified for a kidney coming available the next morning. I accepted and my husband drove me to the hospital 2 hours away. Next day I had the 4 - 6 hour surgery and the new kidney began to work right away. I am less than 48

ELF Test (Enhanced Liver Fibrosis)
Has anyone here had this test? I saw a different hepatologist and he ordered this lab. From what I understand, it measures 3 molecules in the liver matrix metabolism and gives a score reflecting the severity of fibrosis. They say it is so accurate it is beginning to replace liver biopsies.
