I am currently taking tacrolimus and mycophenolate, are these drugs healthy for a baby? What have other experienced with pregnancy after a kidney transplant?

Never been pregnant but the pharmacist and the transplant team always emphasize the importance of birth control while on Mycophenolate it will cause birth defects. You will need to speak with your transplant team to have your medication changed before planning on pregnancy. They also mentioned waiting a whole year after getting off mycophenolate to safely become pregnant.
Only your transplant doctors can answer that question. I know women have been pregnant after a transplant. So, I know it is possible.Talk with your transplant center and get the facts.
Best of luck to you. Let us know what they tell you.
Hi! I had my transplant 6 years ago (today) 😄 and I also gave birth to my boy last April. I talked with my nephrologist and I was taken off mycophenolate and put on immuran for the safety of baby. I stayed on tacro. I also didnt start to try to have a baby until 6 months of clearing the mycophenolate out of my system. I had lots of labs done to make sure kidney function was still healthy throughout the pregnancy. My baby did come 3 months early, born at 28 weeks 1 lb 13 oz. 3 months in the nicu, but no major health concerns and hes a thriving 16 month old now. Also back on mycophenolate. My creatinine is 1.0
Hi! There was a time I considered having a baby after transplant but that didn’t pan out. There is a private Facebook group, all female, called Pregnancy and Motherhood + Organ Transplant. Very supportive community and you can learn so much from others’ experiences.
I am on tacrolimus and prednisone and I got pregnant and had a miscarriage in January I am not 100% sure if its from the tacrolimus. If you are thinking about getting pregnant I would let your transplant center know. I have read contradicting things about tacrolimus like its not good for pregnancy and its okay. I know my team put me on it because I was not planning on having more kids. I did not plan or was trying just had an oops.
