ELF Test (Enhanced Liver Fibrosis)

Has anyone here had this test? I saw a different hepatologist and he ordered this lab. From what I understand, it measures 3 molecules in the liver matrix metabolism and gives a score reflecting the severity of fibrosis. They say it is so accurate it is beginning to replace liver biopsies.

I have never heard of it. It sounds like a fantastic new technology! Did you or are you going to have it done?

yes, I had it last Friday. Not too happy with my results but could be worse. I scored moderate risk of cirrhosis in the next 3 or 4 years. According to my biopsy in 2020, I am mostly stage 2 fibrosis but there was an area around the portal vein with early bridging. That could be an issue later.

my lab result says “likelihood of progressing to cirrhosis and/or clinical events “

I’m sorry your results were not more positive. I have been in early cirrhosis for maybe 4 years? And I’m okay. Don’t worry too much. ❤️❤️❤️ lots of love!

I appreciate that. Thank You. He’s a very good hep so I’ll let it rest in his care.

is this better than an MRE?

I’m not sure about that. When I searched ELF, I only know it said is beginning to replace biopsies.

Hi,

I’ve had something similar where I have received a fibrosis score, fibrosis grade, and necroinflammatory activity score with necroinflammatory grade. They also checked alpha-2-Macroglobulin and Apo A1. All of these tests were listed under Immunochemistry Results. I had this done in 2019 and then again about a month ago. Sadly my results were great in 2019, but have increased this time. All my other labs were elevated as well and are usually in normal range. I’m doing a recheck in 6 weeks😊

I asked my hepatologist about an ELF test and she said they prefer to use Fibroscan as they find it quite accurate.

my heps prefer fibroscan vs biopsy. But in my case 2 years ago he wanted a biopsy because my ast was higher than normal. I had just had a fibroscan 2 months earlier and I scored stage 2 fibrosis. However, the biopsy showed there was also an area of stage 3. So had I not had the biopsy my dr wouldn’t have known.

also, I had a fibroscan in May. Score 8.4 Mild fibrosis. But still my hep knows that’s not totally accurate. I have changed heps as if a week ago. He is with a transplant hospital and he is big on the ELF test. It gives info the fibroscan and our regular labs do not, not which allows them to intervene before things get out of control.

No ma’am, this is a blood test. I have fibroscans yearly. Yes I’m doing well.

gwillistexas I have deleted my comment as it is inaccurate, thank you for the information and the memory jog. 😀

Are you in the Houston area? If so, could you share name of Dr. you are seeing?

I’m in Tyler. Houston is about 4 hours South of Tyler. The dr is Parvez Mantry @Methodist Liver Institute in Dallas. He and a few other hepatologists have an office here in Tyler and they come once a month. You might a heck and see if they also come to Houston. I do know he goes to Amarillo.
