Diagnosing early cirrhosis / fibrosis / ALD
I apologise for the long post but I am finding myself in a really difficult position. I am 32 years old and have drank heavily over the past ten years, mostly binge drinking during weekends and holidays (4-5 weeks per year). Other than this I have been generally fit and healthy. In the past six months

Confusing fibroscan result
Hello all, just a quick update on my partner following his visit to the hepatologist for a check-up 7 months after his last visit. Back in February he had a fibroscan that gave him a score of 16kPa, which was F3 severe fibrosis. At the time he saw a different consultant, who put his original decompensated

Queen’s second try
I went to the second kidney transplant center. They were nice I learned a lot. The rooms were so tiny not made for a wheelchair for sure. I still made it. I have one worry. I only have one caregiver. I’m going to have to ask some friends to help me. The second center was nice, professional, and caring

End of Life Memories
Thinking back to a year ago I was busy trying to turn an unused room filled with a lifetime of boxes into a habitable, useable bedroom for the arrival of a hospital bed before the hospital would allow mum to come home.

I don't know what to do :(
I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid back in 2018. I assume it's autoimmune related as my anti body score was 410.8 but it's never been stated as such. My mum also has an underactive thyroid which I think is the main reason they started me on levothyroxin in the first place; 2 years before in

Silychristin, a Flavonolignan Derived From the Milk Thistle, Is a Potent Inhibitor of the Thyroid Hormone Transporter MCT8
We have seen many claims for Milk Thistle over the years. Often suggested for people with liver-related issues. But the only person I know who tried it felt unwell from taking it. So I have long been cautious. This paper identifies a potentially significant issue with a constituent of Milk Thistle

Fibroscan referrals
My wife and I took advantage of a Fibroscan Roadshow this week. Mine was normal but wife has reading of 12.2 kPa and an 1QR 47. The clinician who took my wife’s reading had a great deal of difficulty in getting the right position to get a reading from her liver. It took over 10 minutes! The results

Fibroscan vs CT scan for cirrhosis diagnostics
I will ask this question to my consultant but since I won't see him in the next 2 months, I'll go ahead and ask here in case anyone knows. As I understand, Fibroscan can correctly show the fibrosis reading of, let's say 6.5 kPa, but CT scan can still detect liver nodularity and scarring which corresponds
