I am travelling to the USA soon and am so stressed about the cost of Health insurance for the 7 days that I will be there. Last quote I received was upwards of £2000. I am 3 years post liver transplant. Am I going to the wrong companies? Just want to feel reassured that if anything happens that I will be taken care of. America’s healthcare system is so awful in that if you don’t have enough money your left to literally your demise. I have to go as I am best man at a family members wedding. I work full time but like most people I am pay cheque to pay cheque. Help!!!!! Does anyone or the BLT recommend an insurance company or know where people like me can get temporary cover.

Health/Travel Insurance after Liver Transplant
I have no idea about USA but I wonder would you have the same issue if you would like to travel to some country of European Union? What is the situation now after Brexit?
Have you tried the price comparison sites. I have been quoted over a £1000 to go to Cyprus by a specialist medical insurance company and less than £200 using the other pre-existing medical conditions companies found on the search sites.Good luck.
Hi,
Here is our page on insurance, we don't recommend specific companies but there is a list of companies who have contacted us to say they cover some liver diagnoses, hopefully it will be useful;

We always suggest that you speak to your liver consultant for a medical assessment prior to travel.
Warm wishes

Perfect I’ll have a look. Thanks so much
I got mine from Avanti for a good price. Not much more than for a normal insurance policy. It worked out cheaper for me to get a 12 month policy. Good luck.
ThePug, I’m in the USA. Not sure about the insurance but which parts of the US are you visiting?
Try insurewith.com
Give the Staysure website a try. We use them for our daughter after her transplant. As long as it’s been 6 months since transplant without any complications they seem okay. Cost £150-250 but thats travel to Middle East and Africa, don’t know about USA.
Hi, staysure are not too bad. Once you type in USA the cost increases massively. I have insurance via my bank account with nationwide but was a customer before my transplant. Might be worth seeing if you could use them but I pay £12 per month for which includes travel insurance, phone insurance and car breakdown.Worth searching online.
Good luck and have a great time at the wedding.
Try All Clear or Taylor Made Travel Insurance. It is not cheap, about £500 if you have no other health problems but US is not a cheap country to travel to anyway and heath costs are horrendous. Good luck and enjoy for holiday.Sioban.
I would just like to add that the Mailonline (Sorry!) has an article on home page about about travel insurance. Also, I only checked about liver transplants but I assume that you would also need to declare the reason why you needed to have one. Sioban.
Insurance since covid has increased hugely but more so America. I have not had a transplant but have Aih/pbc. I have just managed, (took days, refused mostly or upto £2000!) to get insurance for Canada stating everything and covering all my illnesses,(have others) for under £130 (including extra covid add on) from insurancewith.com. They were on the government list of companies for medical cover. I didn't need cover for my illnesses and never had on any insurance as my specialist says I'm stable and have been for years but policies now all want you covered. Again I think it's America's as Europe we still have the equivalent of old E111 cover.
Ps. It's for 3 weeks
I had a quote recently, maybe via compare the market? I am 1 year post and the quote was with the PO for £407. Maybe worth a try, other quotes were as silly as yours
Try AllClear. I had a liver transplant 19 months ago , am nearly 70 and was quoted a lot less for the Red Sea in March.
