travel insurance
my son had mitral valve replacement in March but has been given the go ahead to go on holiday. can I use the normal compare sites to get a quote if I add the existing condition? mor do we need specialist insurance companies to quote for insurance?

Post op full knee replacement questions
I had total knee replacement 11 days ago. What exercises should I be doing? Knee is v swollen, v painful! I'm trying to walk little bits throughout the day with crutches. Bending the knee is agony due to swelling.Seeing physio end of next week. They didn't give me any exercises when leaving hospital.

Hip pain 3 years after repkacement
I had a hip replacement 3 years ago which according to my consultant was successful. Since then I have experienced pain in my lower back above the buttocks on that side.I have seen my consultant twice since and he just says the hip replacement was fine. I often have to stop and sit down whilst out walking

knee replacement
I see my liver doctor again in January and if all goes well I’ll have knee replacement surgery in Feb. it’s taken me awhile to decide because I was worried about the impact post op that anesthesia and pain meds might have on my liver. My lab numbers have remain within normal range for the past 2

Higgyandpiggy
Hi, I have had a TKR to both in the last 2 years. A friend lent me a cuff called a Cryocuff which compresses and cools the knee. It really helped. They are expensive to buy but they canbe hired. I was given crutches with special handles, designed for arthritic hands and they helped too. Everything

Surgery and Pred?
I am due to have a knee replacement fairly soon - I met someone else with PMR yesterday and she asked me whether I intended to increase my dose of Pred prior to surgery. I'd not thought about this and I hope it's not necessary. Can anyone advise? Thank you.

Total knee replacement
19 days post op - been very tough especially when COVID thrown into the mix! My muscle tone wasn’t great pre-op but is now nonexistent. Is it possible to build muscle tone with PMR? Without PMR it’s possible to build good muscle tone with regular exercises but no matter how frequently I do my post op

recovery expectations
Hi all I’m coming up to 5 weeks after valve replacement, removal of web and thinning of thickened muscle. Had x ray and ecg, 60% healed and function looking good apparently. Which is great news. I’ve been walking each day, I’m up to a couple of miles and on short hills BPM up to 130. May have overdid

Hello I'm new here.
I was going to wait to poast until I had my test results but here I am. Just been told I have autoimmune thyroiditis. Don't think it's Hashi's because I don't think there's a goitre, but I was told a few years ago that my inner throat was swollen because of waterbrash (stomach acid coming up the oesophagus

3 Day Ventilation and Sedation After Aortic Valve Replacement?
My consultant surgeon want to keep me on ventilation and sedation for 3 days following aortic valve replacement. Has anyone else had a valve replacement surgery were they were told they had to be ventilated and sedated for 3 days following surgery? Ventilation damages the lungs and those who are ventilated

Encourage to those contemplating valve replacement
I just want to encourage anyone worried about life after aortic valve replacement. I know that each case is different and when I had my valve replaced I was young and in good health apart from the leaking valve but I just want to share a photo I took on a walk this week to demonstrate what can be possible

PMR again ?
I stopped pred on 8th October after 4 years and was OK until now. I have developed stiffness and aching in hips down to knees and am wondering whether the PMR has come again due to stress. I was diagnosed with breast cancer on 11th October and am currently on Letrozole to (hopefully !) shrink the tumour
