Cholesterol over range despite weight loss and dieting - what’s going on?
Hi everyone, I was wondering if I could get some advice on my recent Medichecks results. I got the well woman check to check a few things I was concerned about monitoring including my cholesterol. My previous check last year showed my cholesterol was high but still in normal range but now my results

Food question
I know a healthy diet is good for keeping the bp and heart healthy and being new to high bp, I was wondering about yogurt as I eat it daily with fresh fruit and granola. I have Greek yogurt generally but is there a better option? I get lower the fat the better but then they are generally higher in sugar

viagra
I’m taking Felodipine for slightly raised BP and it’s working well . Unfortunately it’s causing some mild ED. I’ve tried other BP meds but can’t tolerate them. I had an ablation for AF nearly 12 months ago which has been successful. The urologist is suggesting viagra or similar. I’m worried it

Dosing with Potassium Chloride
Hello, The potassium/sodium balance is identified as an important driver of high blood pressure. This is what I believe underlies recommendations to consume fresh fruit and veg to help high bp. The only issue is that with busy lives etc it is sometimes difficult to keep up with the 5/day recommendation

Cholesterol and hypothyroidism
I was wondering if there is any relationship between these, had mine checked they aren’t like really bad but my HDL is a bit low and my total cholesterol is a bit high. I don’t know, could be diet related also.

Conflict between urine microalbumin and creatinine levels
I am a 52 yrs old man, an engineer from Sudan. I am on Crestor 10mg since 2007 with controlled lipid profile except HDL around 40mg/dl, also on Telmisartan 40mg since 2010 which reduced urine microalbumin from 50 to 26 mcg/l. I am a neither diabetic nor hypertensive. Recently my PB dropped down to 60

From EHA June 2022. Treating hypertension in patients receiving BTK inhibitors
My own Ibrutinib induced hypertension has been tricky to treat and Losartan, which did suit me, had to be stopped as it was contraindicated. Now on Amlopidine and it's not effective at all so going back to Losartan now that I'm off Ibrutinib. Interesting in that he says that more than one class of

After the Wedding trip to USA I am now in hospital!
After a wonderful trip , feeling really good, I gradually felt tired and “strange “ over the next 2 days . I took my blood pressure and found it was much higher than usual so phoned 111. When the Dr phoned me it was even higher and he said I should go to A&E and was admitted. I’ve had lots of tests and

Blood Pressure tablets.
Can anyone help in regard to blood pressure tablets that do not have much in the way of side-effects. Currently I am taking Bendroflumethiazide 2.5mg which are fine. Because my blood pressure is now slightly raised I need to take a different tablet. I have tried Amlodipine and Rampril 2.5 mg - both

Pulmonary Fibrosis/Pulmonary Hypertension how long?
I know that we have very different experiences with our ILD. I had a look on an American PH news site and see that they have been testing an oral spray which has given quite favourable results for PF sufferers. Wonder how long it will take for UK to get it! Here is an extract from the article. It would

Long term use of Duloxetine
Hi, I have been taking Duloxetine continuously since 2003. I did try Sertraline but I couldn't function. Seeing my GP at the moment is a nightmare. I am just aware that my anxiety episodes are getting more frequent with no rhyme or reason for them. Have they stopped working? and is it dangerous to be

Traveling on a plane with liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension
Hi I’m new to all this. My partner was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis back in may 2022 and spent 7 weeks in hospital. In February this year he was taken into intensive care with a GI bleed and needed blood transfusions and was told he had portal hypertension. He had a follow up endoscopy 4 weeks later

Blood Pressure tablets
I have raised blood pressure. Prof. Graham Hughes recommended Bendroflumethiazide 2.5mg tablets. These have been very good. However my blood pressure has risen slightly - I have tried amlodipine 5mg and also Ramipril 2.5mg and I have had side effects from both. My GP is not very helpful. Anybody

Alpha fetoprotein test for cirrhosis patients??
Hi, is it standard for this test to be done every 6 months with the liver scan? I've just had my bloods done (post liver scan and pre consultant appointment) and spotted that I have been tested for this for the first time and the results are hidden from my Patient Knows Best account ... should I be worried

How often should varices be checked?
My husband had three separate episodes of variceal bleeds in the fall of 2020. Esophageal and gastric varices which were either banded or glued. Sent home and no follow up, nothing. Now 18 months later he was back in hospital with another gastric bleed. It took four endoscopies to finally locate and

Should I be concerned
I am currently taking Ramipril 10mg , Lercandipine 20mg & Indapamide 2.5mg. Despite being on these my BP is still on the high side. I eat healthy, get plenty of exercise, don't drink or smoke. I have even cut caffeine out not that I drank much tea in the first place. When I first started Lercandipine

Stop taking tablets and BP goes down
I have suffered from high BP for 25 years, during which time I have been prescribed up to five tablets to be taken every day. Concentrated on daily exercise and drinking lots of water and my BP became more manageable, and was controlled by ramipril and amlodopine, although still occasions when it would
